Phoera has good synergy with soulforged and dying. Honey Badger also. The less often you die, the more powerful are "on resurrection" and "low hp" bonuses and soulforged, because it means you are much less likely to reach low hp or the near death state, but when you do, these will make sure you bump back up and the odds of dying again quickly are low. Consider if you were a squishy cw, the odds of dying twice in under 90 seconds is much greater, making soulforged less likely to proc for two successive near death state, and more likely to die again between soulforged resurrection and 10 second duration of resurrection, with or without "on resurrection" or "low hp" bonuses.
I just haven't found a companion that I really like so far. Wizards seem to be the best as far as actually contributing. Clerics just run off and pull more mobs, strikers dies in 15 seconds flat, and tank pets seem kind of pointless.
Well, the Fawn is actually mildly helpful: It gives 100 Regeneration as a bonus, which is welcome. Then, as abilities, it buffs you with a rather large regeneration bonus, and also throws a healing circle which is useless because it is always at the wrong place.
Also, because it does not attack at all, it is quite durable.
In any case, and, as purple companions, check the rust monster. It has excellent debuffing abilities, and goes for cheap now.
