Reducing the cost of upgrading companions to a more reasonable amount.

I know this isn't the first thread about the cost of upgrading companions being a bit high, nor will it probably be the last. However, I do think it's a bit of a issue. 300,000 AD to upgrade a common/white companion to uncommon/green seems a bit excessive. Perhaps a better cost would be 50,000 or 100,000 AD, something newer players could save their AD for a few days or a week for. Or maybe Cryptic could introduce a rare world drop from mobs that would upgrade any companion to the next level; or reduce the AD price of upgrading.

Just some ideas I've thought up; if anyone has any other ideas, please post them.

So many times I've seen someone asks "Should I upgrade my white cleric/tank/whatever to green"? And there are at least 3 people who say "No" at the same time. So yeah.

Fact is for roughly the same price you pay to go from white to green you could buy Zen off the exchange, then turn around and buy yourself a purple/blue/green pet of your choice. Upgrading your companion is less about increasing his performance and more about simply maximizing him to his highest potential. Counter to what everybody says I chose to upgrade my tank to purple. I spent a ridiculous amount to do it, far more than I probably would have buying a purple off the exchange, but I did it anyway because I wanted to say I did. He performs just fine, tanks most elites perfectly fine for me (can't tank bosses for long but what do you expect?), and the armor upgrades are kind of cool looking too. Money well spent in my opinion, and I plan to do it again with all my other companions.

For the 300k cost to upgrade a white companion to green I can buy a epic rust monster and have change , says it all , nevermind the 500k and 750k upgrade fees down the road.

I think they should change it to gold like they did with the enchantments. There is so much gold and there is so little to do with it.

50 gold = White to green
100 gold = green to blue
150 gold = blue to purple

It's a lot of gold equaling 300 gold to go from White to purple but, with so little things to do with gold, I would start upgrading.

I agree 100%. I have a few green and blue companions I really like, and I was happy when I got my first one to its current max level... until I checked the price to improve it. Let's just say I haven't even considered it, and still use a green companion at lvl 60.

Heh, I've got the opposite problem I have more ad than gold and always have to buy stuff from the ah to vendor for gold.

That said upgrading isn't about using the companion anymore it's about maxing the active. Never upgrade the pet till you have everything else and you want the active more powerful to max your power.

AD prices for upgrade were already somewhat big compared to old ZStore companion prices, but now with heavy reductions in price (up to 40-50%) they don't make sense at all. The cost of a white-to-purple is 3100 ZEN considering the worst possible AD/ZEN change (500 to 1). With actual change it's more like 4000ZEN.

Prices should be reworked and made a bit more constant, since they are cumulative (250k-300k-350k would be far better and reflect the ZEN store a bit more, they would actually be slightly lower than ZEN store, but remember they are never discounted, while ZEN store items have weekly discounts and occasional big sales).

Rust monster prices are low due to how often rusted lockboxes are opened. Check pseudodragon and aranea prices. Right now it costs 1.5M to upgrade a white companion to purple, and a purple zen store companion costs 925k. I think a 20-35% price cut would make it all in line.

Actualy, its nearly the same price to upgrade white->green than to buy 1 of the Zen store (800 zen -> 400k at 500ad/z or 300k at 375ad/z, so its not THAT bad for green upgrade). But blue/purp upgrade IS really off the chart (500-800zen more expensive)

Has for the Rust monster... I wouldnt take that into account since its a special companion from box and its cheap because there is a lot of ppl who got extras. Check the pseudodragon in comparaison, its a box companion but it cost way more AD/Zen than a normal zen bought purple. (1.6m on "Dragon")

For new player, I would suggest buying the rust monster on the AH while its low. Otherwise if you want blue/purp, buy them off the zen, dont upgrade until they change the prices :)

The mimic is an amazing tank, a taunt that works. It's probably the first and only companion I'm actively considering upgrading.

I'm sure companion upgrade pricing will be reduced eventually, but if past experiences are anything to go by I'm also sure it will be by a disappointingly paltry amount (probably 10%).

The only real discount i can see is if by some miracle the upgrade cost is included in one of the weekly sales although it isn't a zen item so probably not. Some people are obviously using the upgrade and I expect Cryptic want to milk them fully before taking a tiny step towards reasonable pricing. But if C. Wards are anything to go by it'll take more than commonsense to give us a price more than a handful would actually consider paying.

I may be ignorant about this, and if I am that's fine. At least then I'll know. But if i spend 300K in the exchange I would get about 813z at the rates right now . How can you get a blue or purple from the Market for 800z?
(Is my exchange maths all wrong?)

There was a major sale that is now over. Hopefully it comes again someday and you could buy again at those prices.

Yeah saw the sale,m still did not think blue and purple were down around 800 zen. I bought a purple comp during that sale and it was 1600z

I don't think the prices are that bad now after they reduced it. My problem is that I don't want to buy 5x5 companions and upgrade them all while also spending the time to level them up.

Account bound companions PLS. Thats the main-reason I don't even bother with creating more than one toon.

But you can buy a decent purple companion in AH for the 750K it asks for to get from purple to blue.

I have to agree about the mimic. That is one tough little box! Would consider upgrading that more than any companion I have ATM. But I have other things to spend AD on currently.
