Game freezes at "Loading" screen

I've done a search for this before, but none of the results seem to work. Here's the problem:
When I load Neverwinter, the launcher works like normal, the game starts to load like normal, the monitor brightness calibrator will flash on the screen briefly, then it goes right back to the "loading" screen where it freezes indefinitely....never to start again.
I have a sneaky suspicion there's something about the Windows 8.1 update that is causing this, because I never had a problem before the update, but I didn't play for a while before and after the update, so I don't know. Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix for it?
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game on both Arc and Steam, various settings like "safe-mode" and "force-verify", etc. and nothing seems to work. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a working solution for this problem.

Yeah, I've tried reinstall, compatibility mode, various settings in the launcher. It's really irritating and there's nothing that I can seem to do about it. I've submitted bugs when that option comes up, but get no response. It'd be really great if they could figure out what this is.....it worked perfectly fine for the longest time and now all of a sudden it's just crapped out.
mine does this too, it will sit on the loading screen, "material files loaded" will come up, it will then go to not responding
after which it will blackscreen, then it will go to not responding while blackscreened, then it returns back to the loading screen and the loop begins again
and after i spent all day fixing another issue that wouldnt let me log in too, now ive logged in but cant open the game
I saw on another thread someone went into the launcher options and checked "Safe Mode." I tried the same thing, and it seems to be working. It's a tad bit annoying, as you'll have to check it every time you launch the game to make sure the setting is still checked, but it worked for me. Give it a shot.
The persistent non-loading made me annoyed though, so I uninstalled and redownloaded via Steam. Same issue. Trying via steam + safe/windowed mode now.
[EDIT] So I just managed to log in via Steam safe+windowed mode. Once in game you can increase the screen to full size and play. Trying again without safe mode but still windowed.
[EDIT#2] Just loaded up in windowed mode without safe mode first. Seems to be a temp fix (for me at least).
I have similar problems...with win 8.1 ..game freeze at loading screen ... what i can do for playing!?!?:(
