nice game enjoying it a lot and can do everything 100% free which is nice.
it seems the micro transactions is not game breaking for the most part also nice.

my 2 questions....

1. how many boxes do you have to open to get the better things from them on average.

2. how many zen per $ if I use game cards to buy them?
the fill up page had no information on it that I could see on exchange rates, ie - $10 for HAMSTER zen or $50 for xxxx zen.

I ask because I would like to expand my character list but the amount of ADs is nuts for a beginning player. yes I am sure that later they are more available but I get bored to use the same 2 characters always.

when I asked this in game I got zero response. It made me start to believe that all there use rmt sites to get game currency rather than support the game and purchase from here.

anyway back to leveling. thanks in advance and happy gaming to you

    1. Lots. If you want the better things you can play the key lottery or buy off the AH.
    2. ~$1:100 iirc, game cards often have bonus zen promos though.

    1. Lots on average. Only a few if you're blessed by the RNG gods. Rusted Iron lockbox seems to be giving good returns as their average win items seem to be better than others that I've messed with.

    2) Yup. 1 American Dollar is 100 zen. There's only one gamecard sale going on right now and its for the Ultimate game card. Details here.
    contents to be decided

It's US$1 = 100 zen, or 1 Euro = 100 zen if you're in the Eurozone. There's occasional weekends giving bonus zen on all purchases, and $50+ purchases get bonus zen all the time (though not all purchase methods support this bonus. If you buy 5 $10 game cards, you won't get the 300 bonus zen for a $50 purchase.)

I would recommend buying specific items off the Auction House if that is all you are interested in.

Just my general rule of thumb, if you do something trying to get a random return it will never happen. It is only once you stop caring you will get those items. I can't tell you how many times I killed thousands of monsters in games looking for specific drops and only got them after I gave up trying.

The same concept applies to lockboxes. Lockboxes give a decent value return often breaking even or giving a profit from the actual Zen Value but you have to open the boxes for the sake of the standard items. People who only open them for the unique items always get disappointed in my experience.

    hey! welcome to neverwinter.

on the lockboxes, it's a RNG gamble. RNG (in case you don't know) stands for random number generator. so if you really want something that's in one of the lockboxes, you can take a chance and hope lady luck is on your side or you can usually pick up those items from the auction house for less than what it may take in the price of lockbox keys.

right now, buying zen will give you a great value as far as the zen to AD exchange rate. i believe it's around 420AD per 1z. and as skya08 said, there's a promo going on until december 31st.

    anyway... good luck! :)

Keep in mind, if by "some of the better things" you refer to are mounts, that mounts bought off the AH or found in Lockboxes are good for that character only, while I mount bought through the Zen store is unlocked for all characters you have on your account now, or any you create in the future.

If you're going to buy Zen, sometimes it pays for it to go on sale. Same for items off the Zen Store if you can be patient. Help stretch your dollar a bit.

    tyvm all for fast replies.

I am aware that "gambol boxes" are low chance to get what you want, at least they are for for me anyway. was hopeing that maybe they were not so bad here. oh well.

I use only game cards or prepaid dc/cc for online things as I do not trust payments online otherwise and the $1=100z was what I was most wondering as I am most interested in expanding character slots and maybe getting some vanity things. this makes me happy as the prices for these things seem more fair here than other games I have played.

    again,
Thanks All and Happy Gaming =D

I often answer questions for newbies on any of my characters, but most often with Nurzhan of the Oasis, the helpful question-answering half-orc. :D

Since the others have already answered your questions, I guess this is all for now.

From my experience, this is only true if you open the lockbox and then sell the box/cache that you get as opposed to opening the secondary box as well. I usually make a massive loss regardless of lockbox if I open the boxes that the lockbox gives me.

There was some talk in game that due to the specific RNG used in NWO, certain times of day are more likely to favor good drops from lockboxes due to seed being tied to server time

You are joking? Where you can get 1.3 USD for 1€?
That should be ~130 ZEN at least. This is funny!

VAT costs cannot be carried by PWE. they used to pay these costs until a law was passed that made it illegal for them to do so. they then had the choice of pulling their businesses out of the EU or following the law. while it may not seem fair, it is governmental law at work.

if you would like to continue this VAT discussion, send us a PM to do so. do not continue it on the forums. thanks.

OP, extra character slots are one of the most reasonably priced, and most beneficial things you can buy. When last I checked, the exchange was at 460 ADs per 1 Zen. That would put the price for 2 more character slots, if you're only spending ADs you earned, at around 230,000 ADs. That may seem like a lot, but if you keep on top of invoking and leadership tasks, plus salvage epic purple gear you don't want or can't sell on the AH for more, it's quite manageable.

If you want to buy stuff outright, you can either plop down the $5 for the slots, or simply bide your time and setup a budget for yourself. Think of it in terms of entertainment time per dollar spent. At least here in NY, going to a movie, (including popcorn and a drink), can easily cost you $20 per person, and you're lucky if that movie lasts 2 hours. If you enjoy the game, including the main campaign, then you're looking at about 30+ hours per character, and that's before you get into epic dungeons or the c2 current modules.

Still, you are the ultimate decider as to how, where, and when to spend your money or time, so weigh your choices carefully...

You MUST download and install the game client. It is NOT browser-based.
