Hi, I've levelled to 60 with a GF doing only Foundry quests. I was thinking I would try some pvp but have a low gear score.
Can anyone recommend a good guide for farming gear? I looked at the PVP gear but it's all defence stats, that can't be right for PVP can it? I thought power, armor pen. and crit would be better, shows what I know.
I'm also working on a ranger so I would like a guide for that also. Thanks in advance.

Play Sharandar and Dread ring campaings. You can have good epic gear from them, specially from the later. Also, run T1/T2 dungeons until you get the set of armor you want.
I have a slight problem with dungeons as a GF I will be expected to tank. All my powers and feats are for attack, I kind of ignored all the threat ones. I've never done a dungeon in Neverwinter, pretty much because of this. It seems a bit odd that I need to PVE in order to PVP.

Well, you have a free respec token. Enjoy it
My GF is also DPS focused, but I can tank pretty well (and so can you). Just fine tune your spec.
you can get pvp gear in two places. from the trade of blades vendor for pvp-earned glory or from gauntlegrym for grym coin. the gear in the trade of blades is T1 and the gg gear is T2. glory is earned in pvp matches and from the gauntlegrym 20v20 pvp arena. grym coin is earned from gg pvp as well as from the T1 and T2 chests in the 3rd part of gauntlegrym.
in order to do gauntlegrym, you need to be in a guild as you need to be in one of the factions: the luskan corsairs or the delzoun explorers. both will probably take a bit of time to acquire.
Technically they don't *have* to get it. They want it. So they do the requirements to get it. I want the boons. I do the dailies. I don't like to PVE, so if I didn't have to do the dailies to get the boons I wouldn't. Just part of how the system works.
Just like I don't really care for PVP (certainly don't hate it, its just not all that interesting to me) but I do it because I want the artifact I can buy with the glory.
Why don't you start with blue gear? It offers more variety and allows you to concentrate
on the stats you want to have. Also it is very cheap. Just make sure to look out for
the "+5" and "+6" stuff.

Clearly.
If the PvP set (bought with glory) does not have the stats that you want, you may browse th auction house and serch for the blue gear that has the desired stats. Level 60 blue gear is very cheap and the stats are not that different. No set bonus, and three stats instead of four or five, but more points in the said stats.
Now if purple is what you want, and if glory PvP set is not to your liking, then the other "free" set, the GG one, will probably not be either. There are other sets, but it is not clear how you will get them just by pvp-ing. Getting a few hundreds glory points here and there, when AH sets go for several millions af AD, it may take you quite a while.

As for the stats on PVP gear, you want defensive stats, so you survive the alpha of the team, so you can kill them. Also, guides written about that...
... HR is new enough that you may have trouble finding those guides, but for GF, they got plenty.

Yes, I agree. It seems odd too that people that don't enjoy PvP have to play it in order to get the artifact
