Just wondering if we can get an update on when the Dev's would like to have this released. Is it looking like the next patch, another month, another couple months, etc? I know we can't get a fixed eta as that would be locking things down too far but a news update on this would be welcome.

SCA is supposed to be coming soon as in a few weeks kind of soon. maybe sooner than that.
also it is designed to work on smartphones and tablets so you and your companions can adventure on the go.

This is probably a stupid question, but are those four companions based on character or account? So if I have four characters in the game, who all have one companion, can I pick all those four companions? Or do I first pick one character, then that character's companion and hire the remaining three? Sorry, I just never heard of SCA before. *blush*

It is by character, not account. So one character will need 4 companions.
It seems to me that SCA is gateway only. If this is the case, WHY? When I am playing Neverwinter I want to do things like this inside the game. I don't want to play part of the game outside of the game itself. The gateway is tool for Neverwinter, but SCA is part of the game...IMO anyway.

- JailBreak (in development)
Note that if you have less than 4 companions on your character, you can still do adventures in SCA; a number of mercenaries will be added to your party to round it out, but these will be weak and any experience a companion would have earned for encounters where they are used will be lost. (Companions in idle slots as well as active slots can be used in SCA.)
They're probably waiting until the smartphone versions are ready to roll out before enabling it again; the initial test versions only worked on PC (and Mac?) browsers.

You can easily get all 5 white companions for a total 8g (one you get for free, other 4 are 2g each), if you are high level it takes just a few quests/dailies to max 'em to lv. 15

Thanks. Fortunately money isn't really an issue for me. I was just wondering if I should buy four companions, or if I could use four I alreadyd have (spread over several characters). I'm not rich or anything, but I think Neverwinter is one of those games worth investing money in.

I would not want to spend time playing a SCA style game if I had the opportunity to log into the actual game. No thanks.
As far as I know, all the companions have to be on the same character to use them together. At least I could not find a way to do it on the test server.

Correct. All companions must be on the same character to use them together.
And to answer another question that's come up in a few places: if you own between 1 and 3 companions, you can still play SCA with the aid of temporary companions. These temporary companions are weak (rank 1 equivalent) and take their share of companion XP, but they do allow you to play through adventures and collect other rewards.
As for when SCA will be available on live, pending no major problems, we are going to launch it on the same day as the winter event: December 19th! Exciting!

all excellent news! thank you!
also i just noticed in-game on my companion's stats tab, there is SCA information about my companions and a button that takes me to the gateway. cool stuff!

So you would rather stop playing the Neverwinter to load a mini game elsewhere instead of being able to do that in game? I guess if thats the way some people like it...but I dont.

I would love to play SCA on my iPad when watching TV, rather than being stuck playing it in-game.

I guess you all are planning on doing a seperate announcement for it, since this didn't make it into the Winter Festival Preview Announcement? Because I feel a bit bummed out that I only found this out on accident now XD.
contents to be decided

You can run both of them together, actually. Access to gateway runs quite nicely in parallel with having the game open and running.
SCA in the current state = waste of time. The encounter of T4 is really hard and the benefit for them are lvl 30-40 like. Except to run gateway out of pc using, SCA is not advisable.

We don't know if they've made any modifications to it yet based on our feedback, though. They've kept it down for bug testing, true, but that's not to say they couldn't have dialed the difficulty down a notch or two from the near 11 out of 10 they had it set at.

It's a diversion for when you can't log into the game. There are many times where I can have the gateway up and running but can't log in at the same time due to things going on at home. A few mins of web browsing time is far different than game time.

Not very well designed, then
On iPad Safari on iOS 7, trying to add chars to a party fails miserably.. Clicking gives you "hover over", and there is no obvious way to just click. I can't even start a single adventure for this reason.
This is probably one of the most obvious and common browser configurations, and so maybe it would have been nice if just this once, something had been actually tested.

hmm... perhaps i was a little premature in that statement.
A Mobile is currently not available. To play you will need to use a desktop, laptop or device that can show full size html (portrait mode might work for some devices)

What do you mean? I access the gateway on my ipad all the time with no problems.
