I've tried just about every strategy available with my skills. I've used the highest level buff pots. I an not even remotely close to beating him. can't even get him to 50%. before him, I facerolled every other boss type mob except maybe 1.
I've now died ~20 times on this guy. my companion dies in the first 30 seconds. I get chain-stunned so many times dodge is useless. Some attempts I didn't even get him down to 90% before chain-stuns killed me.
Yep. Took a while, i forget the exact strategy i used, but basically stay as far away as you can, avoid circles and adds, etc. I forget what level that was, all a blur now, but after a while, don't use a white companion, they die way too easily on bosses and get stupid with standing in fire. I do remember hating that whole zone though as a CW.
Well ironically beat it right after I posted this but kinda exploited it per say. I pulled the boss and then backed into that tunnel to try and maximize my AOE but 2 of the wolves didn't follow. I was able to kill him in the adjacent room then go in and finish off those 2 wolves.
I was level 50 when I did this.
Yea.. I was so happy to get out of that zone. I had to dummy down my graphic settings and even then it was like watching a powerpoint slide show on most fights. I was able to run everything maxed in every zone up until that zone.
What level is this boss? If he's relatively low I'll try getting to him later and seeing how much I suffer on my Wizard.
Level 49. Its the adds that do me in. They don't go down fast and have near-instant stuns. If your casting when they cast that your done. Up until this point I was used to holding down the mouse button and spamming skills but this fight click once, wait to see if there is incoming effects, click again, move etc... problem with that approach is you have to deal with several waves of adds and it becomes a very long fight.
I tried burning the boss down fast. I tried slow. I tried in between.

How is this guy for other classes?
If you are talking about the Rime Hound, it is the easiest boss fight on this very map for CW.
Lure him out to the precedent room where there is a gap... repel... 1 shot...
If "Icy Guardian" is the big dog in a solo instance of the Icespire zone, then CW is one of the few classes that can easily beat it, even without pushing it out of the gap.
First, if you are cautious type, you can pre-clear the room of at least two of the adds without aggroing the boss.
Second, if you want to be even more cautious, you can pull the boss to the edge of the room or even outside and just deal with it without the extra adds in later phases.
But honestly, if you have a strong crit-based build, Steal Time and Icy Terrain on your bars, you can just zerg it and you will keep all the adds easily CC'd much of the time, so the only thing you need to do is dodge any lunge by the boss. Also, be careful to keep your distance if you circle the boss, because it can bite as it turns.
If you have Shard of the Avalanche already, the fight would be even easier if it is the adds giving you trouble.
Post Feywild, Sudden Storm on tab will decimate the adds. Alternatively, you could add Conduit of Ice for even more control and aoe damage. Chill Strike on tab is risky unless your dodging is excellent due to its slow animation, but is another possibility.
Keep trying it by yourself until you get it. Good players will realise the value of the exercise, because if you can zerg that solo instance (i.e. all adds up and no ledging the boss), there's no solo instance nor the majority of dungeon boss encounters that you cannot solo in the game. It is very good practice.

This. On the left side of the room before the boss, there's a chasm. Pull the hound out, teleport behind her...*zap*
Down the chasm. One shot. One kill. James Bond would've been impressed.
