I don't understand it. is there a point in rewarding a lvl 60 player with experience point as a reward while questing?
I reached lvl 60 while i should be lvl 50 all coz I played a lot of PvP and earned xp from there. now when I am doing regular PvE quests I get xp as reward which makes no sense to me and further more my other toon which is already lvl 60 and have done all quests before fury of feywild. when i enter feywild quest it is still giving xp points as rewards. what the hell is that lame idea.

If they didn't give exp, new companions would take forever to level with just the exp from kills

I was wondering the same thing- completely forgot about the companions, especially since I don't plan on paying for any better ones & I have the worst luck on gaining them (or anything good) from lockboxes, etc.
sry i doubt you companion logic is true.
my companion gained lvl from 1 to 11 without me doing anything. i just kept checking her every few hours and she was ready for training. dont know how but it seems that it doesnt depend on quests or xp points. its rather time dependent. i started quest/DD only after she was lvl 12.
you and your active companion get exp for quest, kills invoking, (leadership)crafting, but I haven't seen a companions exp moving while standing in the enclave chatting around.
Play for fun, Work to get rich, These two are not compatible!

Companions get EXP from most things that you do. This includes collecting leadership tasks and Invocation. Watch the companion EXP bar the next time you invoke. This is where the magic exp comes from that you are seeing.

I have seen a lot of people who think that companions just magically level without doing anything... So I started asking them what they do when they log in... They invoke... lol the first 3 times per day give you and your companion exp.. I think it is 3.... anyway, more than once.

Questing gives the most XP per unit of time, and is a good way to level up companions. Yes, I know non-augment companions are suboptimal right now, but they still provide you with a free flanker (for melee companions) or free ranged support (for ranged companions). Either way, it's free DPS.
One thing I'm hoping Cryptic would change would be to tie companion HP to the summoner's. The highest level companions have around half the typical XP of a max level PC, minus the intelligence of the player running said PC. This makes them die easily and frequently in real combat. Now, if they only died if the PC died himself, they'd last a lot longer.

Taking a break from Neverwinter indefinitely...
