I'm about to buy one (CW). I'm a bit of a min-max freak and was curious how often the cat actually died? It seems like the cat is roughly $1.65 more expensive than the Stone (Mindflayer) which is a pretty minor amount. The cat is a bit better for CW's than the Stone I believe soo...
Someone sway me in the right direction!

Ioun stone is generally considered better for the simple fact that it has an icon item slot instead of a belt slot. All purple belts have an HP bonus that doesn't transfer from the companion to you.
I thought the Cat belt slot was actually considered better than the Stone's icon slot because you can get more overall stats from a rare lvl 55 blue belt...
If you want the chance at higher recovery then Cat, if not Stone. Simple answer.

For a CW,
Cat.
Why:
Recovery and Critical are prime stats for a CW. More so than power.
What dies more:
Neither. They are 100% identical. All augment companions behave the same in terms of taking damage - they are MEANT to be invulnerable, but both the cat and ioun stone can die to due to bugs. (Very rarely happens, 1 in 30 dungeons at the worst)
Icons are not better than belts. Icons are VERY limited in stats. Pretty much they are all pretty bad except ones with Recovery, Power and Crit. So if you are completely focused on those 3 stats, sure the icons fine.
To me, it seems most CWs are lacking in armor pen - a far more efficient stat then power. So having a belt with 243 Armor pen and 133 crit or recovery is slightly more effective than that good icon stat setup.
So while yes an ancient icon has slightly more total stats then a blue belt - it's not necessarily the more effective option.
Though really the differences are quite minor, they are both solid options for a CW.
People are buying cats from wonder bizarre(833k) and reselling in ah for 2m ad. Just wait till zen-ad price go down and buy a stone.
That could be a very long time. Given the brand new lockboxes and players desire to advance quickly, it will take at least as long is took initially for the drop in price. Zens in high demand atm.
Great time to take advantage of the cat price drop imo.
ps: Who exactly is dumb enough to pay 2mil for the cat on ah? I really should start selling those if anyone is.

First, is this Cat price drop only temporary?
Second, are you actually serious about ppl selling the cat for 2 mill?......must be troll, lol.

I'm guessing it is not temporary as many bought the stone over the cat for the cheaper cost alone. Now that the price difference is not really a factor more will probably be buying the cat.

I have both. I used Cat up until this Feywild patch, but the Cat is making LOUD noises non-stop and it drove me insane so I was forced to buy the Stone otherwise I was going to go postal. I know it's probably just a bug with the cat but I can't stand the noises the cat keep making now.

Seems pretty obvious to me that the Ioun Stone of Might upgraded to level 25 is BiS for nearly every build now. Three offense rune slots, 2 ring slots and a waist slot. Power, Recovery, Armor Penetration and Deflect for stats.
Although frankly, once your character is geared out in rank 7s or more, the stats from any augment companion are superfluous and unnecessary for the completion of even the most challenging dungeons. Bring whatever companion you want.
Still, I think the Ioun Stone of Might is the winner right now. It's just, when there's only 3 winners (2 stones or a cat), that are MILES ahead of the other competitors, and NONE of them are necessary for geared and experienced players... does it really matter?

If you like to wear headphones while gaming, the new cat noise (applies to all companions and mounts) would probably drive most insane. It doesn't bother me much over PC speakers, however. I just keep the overall volume down ... I don't care much about super loud combat noises or music, either, so I'm not missing anything.
I play with game sound of and music, soo... btw on the cats selling for 2x bazaar prize... i sold more than 500 feywild boxes at 600-1000 AD each when you can buy them in wonderous bazaar for 200Ad...people is ddumb, is a matter of fact.
Has anyone looked at the new Icon + Belts from Feywild? I wonder if there's a belt or icon that might change the Cat vs Stone battle
There's an icon with ~10 stats more then the CN one, has a bit of armor pen mixed in. Drops in malabog castle, first boss.
There a belt that gives 80 to 6 stats, so 480 total stats make it the highest total stat item between the two, but the stat mix is fairly poor imo. From one of the later areas easy dungeons i think, or possibly malabog too.
So no doesn't really change the overall comparison.

Level 55 will give you plenty of time to max out an augment before you max your own level. I wouldn't bother using it before L40 or so, which is when the common companions(and green ones) tend to be uselessly outclassed by mobs.

So cat slightly edges the Stone at the end of the day still? (At least for CW's...when the cat isn't dead of course...)

These are somewhere in this Patch Note thread:

So maybe the 15% reduction to Cat cost is permanent? I guess you never know with Cryptic though do you
People are selling Feywild Lockboxes for over 3k each on the AH. You can buy them for 200ad from the Bazaar.
We had a neighborhood cat that made them noises at night. Think the cat just in heat.;)
