[BUG] Companions can't be unbound

Basically as the titles states. Idle companions can't be unbound by dragging them to the main item bag. The prompt shows up detailing how many AD is necessary to unbind the pets, but if you confirm the unbinding nothing happens, even if you have the proper amount of AD.

The ability to unbind Companions and either Auction House them or trade them to a Friend/Alt with the levels intact was promised well before Open Beta. The functionality and costings are in the game, but as we all know it does nothing at all when you try to unbind a Companion.

What is most strange about this though is the complete lack of any feedback from Cryptic. No apology from a Dev for not delivering on their word, no short update from a Mod stating it's being worked on right now, nothing. A huge cash cow just waiting for Cryptic to over-price and milk, but instead we get nothing. Same goes for the Companion Upgrade Books. They could whack $10 on each book and still sell them by the truckload (no, I don't think $10 is a fair price).

It would be cool to give my Rock Golem to my Alt and finish leveling him up to 30, but that does seem a little OP.

(Oldish post, but relevant, so still answering this...)

The "monetization" people who lord over the design team at PWE probably realized that you'll make more money on the short term by making people re-buy their favorite companions for each character separately. Also, used pets on the AH would reduce the sales of new ones in the Zen shop. Which is why they aren't commenting on this either. Better "public relations" to just ignore it.

This has been reported since closed beta. I don't think they want to fix it.

They don't. And they won't, if we as a playerbase don't make enough noise about it. Unfortunately it seems like this issue isn't that important to most people, so things are unlikely to change.

TBH if they allow companions to be resellable/tradeable nobody would actually buy from the cash shop.

"Nobody" is perhaps a bit too strong a word. Through normal MMO "churn", many people will just quit playing after getting bored, which effectively removes their companions from the market. And many play multiple characters and want to avoid the hassle of switching pets. New pets will get introduced. There will be impulse buys & new players who don't know about the AH yet. Etc. etc. People will still buy companions for Zen, but PWE/Cryptic apparently figures the numbers would drop enough to justify this move.

I want add my voice to this thread and request that this be addressed. I want to be a companion trainer but there is not much incentive if I cannot trade them with other players.

Same problem here. And to add on, this is WORSE than a bug. Its a defunct on the entire unbinding function! Why show the unbind button, ask for astral diamonds for unbinding purpose, and in the end its not working? In a certain sense, I feel cheated. I bought a companion with my trial character to experience it, thinking that subsequently if i want to play on, i may take another character and transfer it. Now... this is just not honest -.-

I posted this in another thread, but it's relevant here also:

If I'm not mistaken, unbinding was available in Closed Beta but "broke" in Open Beta. Many threads have been posted about this. Yet, I can't recall a post by a DEV stating if and or when it will be fixed. If one has been posted, sorry, but being able to transfer a companion that I might have spend A.D./Zen/real money for is an important feature that deserves attention, immediately. A feature that worked fine for a while has been broken for months.
If you can't transfer a companion to another character or sell it to make A.D. the player is forced to spend or buy A.D. to get another companion. What possible reason could there be as to why this hasn't been addressed?

I don't know, seems shady that it hasn't been fixed yet.

This needs to be unbroken as I had to delete my very rare Skeletal Dog due to a Needed re-roll of my Alt and it's completely unfair as I was just remaking my alt and should have been able to keep my dog.

Bump to this one too. I purchased the $20 cleric companion at release and gave it my fiance, who turned out to not like it as its not a healer at all. We want to be able to sell, trade, or give it to someone else. It was a learning experience but Cryptic isn't getting another cent from us until this is fixed.

There are 100's of posts on the forums concerning this issue, ALL are ignored and tbh while they are still selling companions on the Zen store daily, this will always fall on 'deaf ears'

Its realy annoying and also confusing for alot of players as you can all clearly see the system is there for unbinding, even the AD cost, but it dont work, and tbh i dont think they will ever 'switch' it on, there more focused, as we see this last patch with releasing more new companions for sale in the Zen shop and there was ghost only a few weeks ago too.

From a players point of view, yes agree, the system should be available realy, BUT as a compromise, the unbinding should be available to those who have bought and paid for companions from the Zen shop at the very least, and companions should be made so they can be given to any other character on the account, after all, that account as already paid out for them in the first place.

Plus people who have purchased them and bound them to a particular character and wish to re roll the character usualy wish to do this due to the class being changed, nerfed etc etc, which is all out of their control, and is PWE's for changing class specs. powers, feats all the time, so the customer should NOT have to pay out for another companion.

Another point here, ALL mounts bought from zen store are ACCOUNT WIDE, Both mounts and companions from Hero, Foundry, Guardian packs are all ACCOUNT WIDE. so why not companions bought with Zen ????? it is totaly unfair.

To add, i have the 'Tiger' mount on my account cost: 3500 Zen, and also 2 x Ioun stone of allure, cost: 2000 Zen each, all paid for from buying the Zen for real money. and i can equipe and use the mount on as many characters as i can make, all can use it. BUT not the stone companion, if i delete a character with a Stone companion, its GONE, 20 dollars , lol, totaly unfair, all should be account wide, this is as one poster quoted 'shady'

The stupid thing is, from their point of view , if the Zen companions were account wide, i am pretty sure they would actually sell alot more in the end
