Yet Another Review Trade Thread! NW-DGPROFMWU

edited July 2013 in The Foundry
I designed this as a short, compact dungeon crawl for a quick Foundry Daily run. It being my first Foundry quest, I figured this would be a good way to learn the ropes without getting too ambitious. Though, now I think I may be on to something with this "hack n' slash with optional back story" format and would like to add more to the series.

Any feedback would be great, and I'd be more than happy to check out your work too.

"An Occurrence at Faolon's Field"
Shortcode: NW-DGPROFMWU
Author: @voxx75

Synopsis:
Your quest begins with a summons to Faolon's Field, an ancient graveyard built on the site of a long-forgotten battle. A grizzled elf ranger by the name of Fenrir is the warden of the nearby woods and is troubled with recent strange sights and sounds coming from the graveyard. He's calling for any willing adventurers to help him investigate the mysterious occurrences.

TL;DR: Zombies! Skeletons! Crypts! FOG!

*HELPFUL HINT: Be sure to read all item descriptions and interact-able dialogues!

SETTING: Horror, Undead
STYLE: Action, Hack N' Slash, Light Puzzles & Story
TONE: Suspenseful, Light Humor
DIFFICULTY: Solo=Moderately difficult. Recommended party of 2-3 players

Reviewed, enjoyed the quest. i was able to solo it pretty easily, otherwise it seemed like a pretty solid hack n slash.

That's a well done dungeon crawl (more than hack&slash in my opinion). Nice attention to details. I've noticed that Fenrir doens't move when he says he's going back you might want to change that (I went back to camp and found him where I had left him).
The fights are reasonably balanced, only the last one was trickly for me as a melee.

Well done, 4 well deserved stars for a future foundry daily.

Thanks for the feedback! I've noticed that with the NPC as well. He is set to "Follow Ignore All" and he works as intended 9 out of 10 times, so I can't pinpoint what exactly is causing that behavior - other than a game bug.

    Thanks again :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't read your post thoroughly. I would like to set him to run back after the objective is finished. I think that would require despawning that instance of him, then respawing another one that has a patrol point back to camp? I'll see if I can make that work.

I've updated my quest so that the NPC just tells you that he is staying behind, and not going back to camp. Yeah, it's the lazy way but in order to make the NPC follow you to a certain point, have a conversation, and then head back to a specific point would have required several instances of the NPC, plus some finagling of quest objectives that I really didn't want to mess with. Too much of a trade off for a little detail that most people wouldn't really notice.

Anyway, thanks for all the reviews and feedback so far everyone. It's given me the confidence to continue creating quests, and I've just started on my next last night. :)

This was a nice surprise. I was expecting simply a hack and slash and got a nice story behind it, with a bit of humor. I didn't pay as much attention to some of the earlier dialogue as I should so I had some trouble with your password and I kept being made fun of by the guard. I thought the sound and environmental effects were nicely placed. The only thing that caught me completely off guard was the first sound effect, kind of woke me up :-)

One suggestion might be at the end, when you had the quest to "Go through the portal and talk to Faolon". I Thought that was a bit odd since I thought he was left behind. Maybe change the text so it's a bit more of a surprise when you are heading out and all of a sudden see Faolon. Just a suggestion.

But if you wouldn't mind reviewing mine. It's my first foundry and not quite complete yet. It's meant to be a 2 person hack and slash, though I can solo it at lower levels since the mobs don't have all their powers yet. NW-DIG3FBD2Q

Thanks sakany69! And that is a great suggestion about the quest text; you're right it doesn't quite make sense. I'll put that in the next update. I'll definitely check your quest out, hopefully tonight.

Will check it out in a sec here, if you wouldn't mind giving mine a go that would be great.

Ok just finished. It was a fun little quest. i knew the pass word right away but had a brain HAMSTER when it came time to use it. talked to him and saw the letters looked different so i figured i must have mis-read the clues and the password wasnt what i thought it was.. which it was but i had to figure it out the hard way lol.

while playing around making words I found one reply (and i forgot to write down the word) but went something like 'the word you looking is lost'. missing the 'for' (looking for is lost)

also in the room behind the portal (second to last fight) i noticed a body bag half stuck in the floor

    all together good job.

Hi Voxx, nice little quest! I like your premise 'hack and slash with bit of back story' I think it will be effective for people who want a short run for a daily. Like other comments, your music and sound were good, I would like to see a bit more detail put in the dungeon for atmosphere, but that's really just my taste. And I couldn't find the teleported easily but that's really minor. I did it solo, and the only time I was really challenged was the final boss encounter, but once I worked out the types I kited them a bit and picked them off ok. All in all a nice job, thanks. I would like you to review mine, NW- DCJEFZZRD, but it is quite long, ( well over an hour) and has quite a back story, so if its not to your taste that's fine. Cheers and keep up the good work!
