The Cragsteep Crypt Main Page

Name - The Cragsteep Crypt @apocrs1980

Short Code: NW-DKZHULOVG

Mission Type: 5 man dungeon delv

Average Duration: 1.5 Hours

Amount of Combat: Very heavy

Starts at: World map, depart from any gate.

Mission Summary: Something terribly wrong is rumored to have happened in the town of Cragsteep. Nestled in the South Western Crag Mountains, the town is a hub of valuable trade for Neverwinter and other outlying cities.
However, the trade has mysteriously stopped and no one has heard from any of the citizens of Cragsteep for days. You and a few of your closest allies are charged with finding out what happened.

Author tips/hints: See PRO TIPS section in lower post for all hints and tips of surviving the dungeon.

Hello everyone, Apoc here!

I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who helped me fine tune the Dungeon!
Also, I have always wanted to to create a dungeon that I would have fun running through and that others will enjoy as well... something that is both visually stimulating and has memorable battles, and I think I have accomplished this.

As any Dungeon run make sure you are well equipped you will be facing down dozens of evil hoards in the ancient crypt so make sure to equip AoE and healing abilities! Careful and well timed pulls can go a long way and mean the difference between success and death, I hope everyone enjoys this labor of love of mine as well, Cheers!
Here are the details,

RECOMMENDATIONS:

This is a dungeon so it is best to bring the "holy trinity" ( Tank / Healer / dps )
Please note the difficulty of this dungeon scales greatly as your character levels up.
Although you can play solo it is not recommended as it takes a very long time to do and is extremely challenging!
Also please note that the Rewards in the Chests at the end of all UGC missions are completely at random, authors unfortunately have no control over this.

NOTE: If you do need to take a break from the dungeon, hit the back button on your mini map, and you will not loose your progress! This will allow you time to sell stuff and get a sammich! :)

Recommended Level: 30+ (for the best challenge)
Group size: 3-5
Average length: 1.5 hours
Style: Dungeon Crawl Heavy Combat - some story elements "completely optional."
Label: (quest)

BETA 1.14 patch notes:

* Added optional difficulty for the battle with the epic eight heroes, you may now consult with the spirit of Jarrod Elswan to get additional help should you so choose, this ranges from solo (very difficult) to I need all the help I can get! (a challenge)

* additional work done to fix grammatical errors (I think I got them all)

* fixed end dialogue with the spirit of Nora, apparently there was too much text and the players were unable to scroll down to select the option to continue. This has been broken up so taht plyers can now select the response text.

* additional tweaking done to encounter placement to prevent them from spawning in walls.

    Dungeon Compendium:

Here are some facts about the dungeon-

Total man hours to complete just to get it to a beta status was over 500+ hours working non-stop.

This was built with a group of adventurers in mind I was thinking of epic 10 man raids actually when I made this, it may be solo-able at lower levels but I only would attempt this if you really want to be challenged, have way too many HP pots than you know what to do with, or do not mind spending over an hour or more playing through the dungeon. The time is takes to complete the dungeon on solo for that matter is directly effected by your class type and it's ability to kill monsters. A GF will take FOREVER! Believe me I know. :P

Ideally I had 4 to 5 players in mind when creating this, and if you run it as a group of 3-5 it is easier and takes significantly less time to get through, I timed 40 min tops with a group of 5.

    PRO TIPS:

Other things to help those who find it too difficult,
every encounter placed in the dungeon has a purpose weather that be story driven, protecting a vital piece of progression, or preventing players from zerging through as fast as they can.

Tip toes: in the ancient crypt, you can avoid triggering the Ancient protectors by walking around the floor triggers if you wish to speed up the dungeon.

Should I kill that pat?: The Soul Reaver patrol on the bridge leading to the fight with the Epic Eight can by bypassed with good timing, however, when killed it spawns a lot of nasty crypt crawler packs, the choice is yours.

Hide and Seek: Alissya Crass avoids combat as often as possible, after the epic eight heroes fail to kill you she hides. If you find and kill her all of her shadow clones disappear shortening the fight significantly... Happy Hunting.

I HATE spiders!: On the Broodmother encounter she summons Crag Spitters, these should be your first target as if you leave them alone they will nuke the entire party from afar causing death in seconds.

The fallen paladin: Darious Whitemane is similar to Alyssia, killing the real Darious (the only one dressed in white) will cause his shades to vanish.

Blackmore the Foul: finding the fight too intense? use an alter and heal up before destroying the soul stones the ghosts while keep him distracted until your ready.

    BOSSES:
    Jarrod Elswan
Epic Eigh Adventurers & Alyssia Crass
    Cinder Gore
    The Broodmother
    Darious & Blackmore's end

Like any Dungeon monsters have a priority to them, leave some well enough alone and you can find the group overwhelmed in seconds, there is always a BEST way to get through and its up to the players to come up with their own style of finding it.

    Side notes:

    *Authors can not place vendors.
    * We have no control as to what you get from the chest upon completion.
*We can not alter or give out loot.
*Best loot is generated from length of quests #of monsters killed # of deaths, there for this is made with the best loot drops in mind.
*We can not place actual "BOSS" encounters yet as they do not exist in the Foundry.

This has been my favorite foundry mission so far. A great foundry for a small group or if you are insane about soloing (thinks can ALWAYS be harder though =p ). Cant wait to see actual boss fights implemented to the foundry. Looking forward to see more work by you!

So far i love this, but at the end before i enter the portal to fight Blackmore, theres an invisible wall stopping me from getting to the portal. Is this a bug or am i missing something ?

    Hey there mnkeyqt,

You have to speak with Nora to advance the story line afterwards you can use the portal, the wall is there to prevent people from accidently skipping that part and getting stuck it the final chamber. Pressing "enter" while talking with Nora will advance the story.

This is a brilliant dungeon. I'm currently playing through it and thoroughly enjoying it!

How did you add effects like the blurry vision and the shaking screen?

ps; check out my quests if you have time.

So am I mistaken or this quest is a Delve dungeon? Meaning ALL players will get equiv gear of running T1/T2 dungeons? I did not think they were making things like that allowable to the public to create. I will have to try this dungeon out when I get home...

Feedback about the loot would be great, or is this only in the shard atm?

No, it's a player made quest. Apoc just created it to be a fun challenge to a group of players... and extremely fun for a solo "challenge".

Bummer... Because if they can find a way to let players create good dungeons, it saved on Dev time and allows them to use fun content...

They seriously need to have a way to let players submit these things for real rewards. The ONLY reason I would hesitate is because the creator could build "backdoors" to skip content but overall if players could create their own endgame dungeons for others... and actually get good loot...

WOW this will be a HUGE success

yes, believe me I know, and I would give everyone satisfactory gear for completing the dungeon if I could, however there are those exploiters out there those few that ruin it for the many, but If Cryptic was to say add a loot table to an encounter to drop decent gear on "featured" dungeons or "lock" the dungeon so it's no longer editable I think that would be a great compromise to having player made dungeons.

Did it yesterday, lvl 21 CW and 14 TR. Swept through a lot of potions and PA's both of us, but at least it's doable even with a two people. I dread thinking soloing it even at a low lvl, and do not recommend that.
Overall, awesome dungeon. It outclasses the game's own dungeons in terms of story and boss fights. You should keep creating these, who knows, maybe PWE will give in and hire you to make dungeons, so that we may have some good encounters for a change.

Thanks so much for the Kudos Hurrcan :)

It was a blast to build and I was always thinking "epic raid" in the back of my mind when building it, I will be making some major renovations once we are able to add true bosses in the foundry, and also update a lot of aesthetics to the environment in certain areas. I was hoping to have this as a show piece to show other players what the Foundry is capable of doing and also hopefully catch a recruiter's eye at Cryptic, I would love to do further dungeon design it would be a blast! Also,
I will be building another dungeon and also using some cleaver techniques to make some "boss Mechanics" to the future boss fights even without a big bad boss encounter.
It will be set in the outer plains where the Fey Wild is being taken over by the nine hell's, your coming in to restore order in the planes should be a fun dungeon run and I'll make it tuned for 2-3 players :)

Loved the quest. My brother and I did it awhile ago and we both enjoyed it. One thing I want to know for my foundry quests is how do you make it possible to back out and re enther the quest? Whenever I quit one of mine I lose the ability to go back to the map and am forced to drop quest and start again. I would love to know how you achieved this. Thanks

    Hello Yipykaye,

The only way to accomplish this is to be sure you have selected the map point on the openworld map instead of a cryptic map. To do this you need to select the map node on the left of your story tab and check the tiny box that says "leave from openwold map" to true, then position the node on the openworld map. This way if a player does have to back out all they need to do is leave from any door and reselect that node point on the open world map. it will retain whatever quest objective they last completed.

Well this is brilliant info! My husband and I are loving exploring the Foundry instances together, but one of us (not saying which) is perpetually calling "My bags are full! Dammit I should have stocked up on potions!" The ability to pause and re-enter just revolutionized play for us.

Also, as an aside: we are currently lvl 27/28, is it possible to duo your Cragsteep Crypt?

At that level yes it is possible however, it may take a few hours to complete and some fights will prove quite difficult.
I left a pro tips section in green in the OP of this thread for best strategies on the boss fights to help people out though.
Also, the back map feature is nice, so you do not have to complete the entire dungeon in one go if you don't want to and or take a break to sell/buy stuff, the drops in the dungeon should more than compinsate for any health pots used. :)
