T2 Spider Run - All Classes

Hi All,

After the recent patch, the T2 Epic Spider Run has been a bit of a pain for quite a few including ourselves. No doubt this strategy of "go in and smash" has been posted already, but figured I would post one showing an all classes group from mix guilds. Edit::

Update - Have also added a link below where we did it in 5 mins using 2x TRS, 1x GWF, 1xCW, 1xDC. Since our tank wasn't online we substituted in a rogue and had myself (GWF) focus both on AoE agro on blade masters and simultaneously DPS the boss also.

T2 Epic Spider Run (after patch) all classes run - 15 mins

(best to play on 1080p quality setting to see stats bottom right hand side)

T2 Epic Spider Run (after patch) - 5 min run

(best to play on 1080p quality setting to see stats bottom right hand side)

Messy Run (but possibly useful live Ventrilo commentary) - 15 mins
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-97s7Qml5tM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUAsSO6GgEV84eUq7I6_A19Q
(best to play on 1080p quality setting to see stats bottom right hand side)

Strategy - All Classes Run
please excuse any mistake/lack of skill names for other classes as I only play GWF
  • Went in with a fairly solid (9000+ Gear Score team) of players that knew their classes, but by no means were extremely high spec
  • Before main fight (this video) hugged the RHS wall and did a "lap of honour" killing all group mobs in arena on first attempt. These group mobs are separate to re-spawning mobs and simply need to be taken out on your first attempt (if you all die and release, on 2nd, 3rd, 4th attempt etc. these group of mobs are no longer there)
  • We relied on Tank to hold agro on blade masters etc. and Astral Shield (blue circle of love) to keep tank & the rest of us alive, while we all just let loose on the boss.
  • All of us were aware that whenever the Astral Shield went down (for approx. 5 seconds) to expect an onslaught of pain from blade masters so were ready to pop potions & be extra careful of incoming damage. In particular every time the Astral Shield is down the tank starts to take a hammering followed closely by everyone else.
  • Each class had something up their sleeve for those 5 seconds (knockbacks, stuns, dailys) to keep blade masters under control and simply buy time for Astral Shield to come back on. This is particularly key and it doesn't really matter what skills you use, but more the principle of keeping those blade masters under control during those crucial 5 seconds
  • And that's it really, we tried other fancy strategies, but in the end out DPSing her heals with everyone playing their class worked best.

GWF Note:

As GWF I use "Slam" for damage as my daily, but keep "Avalanche of Steel" (aka superman move) as secondary daily to slow the fight down when it's needed (also useful to assess fight situation/buy time for team mate rez or even land in right next to team mate who has gone down and rez yourself etc.) In this fight mixed it up between the two dailys depending on situation and for my knockback skill I used my roar albeit we have an array of skills so other knockback skills just as viable.

Note from the Healer (copy n paste of you tube comment she made)
"If anyone is interested, I was the cleric in that run (the girl voice). I was running astral shield, healing word and sun burst, with hallowed ground (primary) and divine armor (just in case). Foresight and divine fortune for passives. Feat points in deepstone blessing, linked spirit, invigorated healing and moontouched. Extra points are 2 in rising hope and the rest go into the divinity gain feats in the bottom tree. I run this in most T2's."

Additional Advice

Be very careful with knockbacks of any kind, including Shield pulse on CW, while Astral Shield is down. Anyone with aggro on multiple Blademasters, which most likely will be the knockback user or the healer, will be simultaneously multi-charged and stun-locked, pretty much one-shotting them if Astral Shield is down with most healers.

The best thing to use are any kind of aoe stun or pull type of control, like Steal Time, Arcane Singularity ("black hole"), Entangling Force ("Darth Vader choke"), the Rogue's Smoke Bomb with its daze, the GWF's aoe pull thing (no idea what its called) or the GF's prone knockdown. That said, this is probably the only PvE fight in the game where CW's Ice Storm (that annoying huge ice pushing spell) can make a positive difference if there are no issues with healing.

CW's Icy Terrain aoe slow is not as useful as you would think for this fight because of the charge/teleport of the Blademasters. So, your CW can switch to Ray of Enfeeblement and/or Conduit of Ice (especially if they are Thaum) to help speed up the boss dps.

You can also tell a good healer from a bad one for this boss if they place boss at edge of healing circle instead of at the middle. You really do need as much room as possible to move from both the red aoe and the Queen's one-shotting abilities like her big melee swing, while not risking being charged to death from the Blademasters.

If you can get her into Drider mode (50%), there is no reason you cannot beat this boss since its the same pattern from then on, other than one long rectangular red aoe that should be avoided.

Strategy - 5 min Run
  • As above strategy inc. pre-clear of mobs with "lap of honour"
  • As GWF I used WMS to pickup all blade masters with some mini CC using Roar, used a lot more Slam for damage and agro and landed most of my encounters/chains on boss unless the odd blade master hadn't been picked up by WMS and was on a team mate.
  • Control Wizard did a fantastic job of CC in between the healers Astrals shields and a lot of interrupt work on blade masters near spider queen when they were healing her (didn't worry too much about anything else in room until it came close and was picked up by GWF AoE)
  • Still need to be very cautious in those 5 mins when Astral Shield is down especially GWF who will potentially have agro on a lot of blade masters so threw in the odd avalanche of steel (albeit nowhere near as much as first run) or just kited for 5 secs.
  • This could still have been done faster if CW & GWF went a bit more all out on the boss, but we played it a bit safe on the blade masters.

Strategy - Messy Run
  • Keep going even if things don't seem to be working to plan
  • The messy run example (our second rogue was low gear score/spec and first time in dungeon so we struggled a bit on DPS) is based on 5 min run. However everything that could go wrong (from initiating the queen early, guys falling over - sometimes two at a time, interrupts and knock backs miss-timed leading to heals and inexperience settling in) happened ... yet through sheer determination and some random dude going nutz on vent (:)) we pushed us through downing her on very first attempt.
  • Video posted mainly for those leading raids as live ventrilo voice during the actual run may be of interest to you.
  • Combined with info already posted and previous 2 videos posted this thread should give you everything you need to take down Spider Queen.

Do rogues not use dailies? (just interested)

GJ though, good to see there are a few ways of doing it.

I use my daily all the time. Don't know why this rogue didn't.

I was focused mainly on making sure that if the boss turned its attention to me, that I could evade fast enough to avoid getting killed (my rogue is squishy). My two slotted dailies are shocking execution (which sucks now) and whirlwind of blades (which is AOE, and so I avoid using in boss fights where I'm trying to avoid taking aggro on adds). Per that vid, you can tell it's the first time I've killed that boss, and my last few boss battles were vs Hrimnir where popping shocking execution typically results in me getting KO'd by his aoe spams.

Aye, Pyrion is still very much working on his build (only has 1x T2 piece atm and GS ~ 9K). Earlier on in the day we did a run with a rogue who had 11.4K GS, but he kept going down on boss. Would take Pryion's gaming intelligence/awareness and evasive manoeuvres over that any day :) If fully spec'd (and using an appropriate daily for the fight xD) no doubt he would have easily taken that top spot from me in single target DPS. If you run the video in 1080p and full screen you can also see the damage from wizard and tank in table bottom RHS. Everyone "threw down" in this fight and the healer kept us in it so most definitely a team effort in every sense of the word.

One tactic you can use if you have two rogues. This works well for increased dps as well so it shouldn't be over looked.

    2 tr
    1 or 2 cw
    1 dc
any additional class (i guess gwf counts too) if you don't take a second cw.

The rogues alternate smoke bomb. Decide who is going to drop first and then the second rogue waits for the smoke bomb effects to wear off and then he drops his.

At the start of the fight she will teleport around a lot, the cleric needs to keep shield up by her if possible, mean while the cw(s) need to work on the drow healing her while the rogues dps her down continuing to maintain alternating smoke bombs. Once you get past the initial barrage of incomming drow it will get easier for the cws and healer.

Once she stops teleporting around it will get easier to maintain smoke bomb and everyone can hug the astral shield avoiding the explosive aoe. By this point she should have converted into her spider queen form. The rogues keep up alternating smoke and dpsing but the fight is down hill from here on.

Some solid advice there. Have added to original post. The GWF skill you are referring to is "Come and Get It" which pulls your enemies towards you and gives you a flat damage buff also.

Great job OP, tried this fight yesterday for 1st time...not sure what was going wrong, other then I see I was using AS instead of ice storm:( Now I know, I play CW and watching the one here I can see I wasnt doing much different then he was, except dying alot due to the main adds always seeming to aggro to me, now where to go with 3 to 4 of them on you, and CW is squishy to start. Going to use this tho on next run in... Good J

Messy Run (but possibly useful Ventrilo commentary)
The following is an example is of a messy run (second rogue was low gear score/spec and first time in dungeon so we struggled a bit on DPS). Also had a lot of guys fall over during run, sometimes two at a time, but whilst others may have called it sheer determination pushed us through downing her on very first attempt.

When dealing with large groups of spiders, I just use the silver sword in group stance.

    Hope that helps!
