how to not kill NW and make "items feel more unique and rewarding to obtain"

It is easy really.

1) Keep all gear in a natural state of BoE on all greed rolls.
2) Create the concept of Bind on Need.
3) Allow BoN items to be taken to a special dyer in town.
4) Allow each BoN item to be dyed a select number of exclusive BoN colors...and make them look nice...or give them some sparkles or glows or something.

This fixes pretty much all of the issues. People that want to buy can, people that want to buy and then upgrade to BoN through dungeon running can, people that want everyone to know they got their gear the "old fashioned way" will, people that want to be able to judge another players competency based on gear can, etc.

Wow, I would love this in game. That would make BoN gear and dungeon running a major accomplishment.

Great idea. Added your thread to my feedback post.

Thanks. I have mentioned this in any number of MMOs...none have ever ran with the idea unfortunately.

Do you not have a DD chest? It hurts your back... you're not missing anything.

I like this idea, but how would it work with stuff out of the DD chest?

The question was how can you bon it. You can't.

A sloppy mechanic would be to have you select need or greed for the items after u opened the chest. You would get them all only their status would chsnge. Or have it go bon if u take it to dyer, trading or ah would make it boe. Whatever the mechanic the end result would be the same.

Looks like a giant waste of code and time to implement something like this. Don't see any problems with BoP, the market is HAMSTER with how many items from CN have flooded the market. If they were looking for ideas 6+ months ago, an idea like this surely could have made it on the board.

BoE has unfortunately devalued time needed to just play the game due to saturation. That was poor planning on Cryptic's part. This isn't a loot grinding game anyway. It just needs more to do or more power to the Foundry makers.

    1) They have already said a single set will be BoE from T2
    2) If you buy everything what else is there to do?
    3) There is plenty of an economy around the Shards
    4) The AD salvage gives you a really terrible return in a few cases, but most of the time its actually BETTER than most of the AH prices atm (Seriously some stuff is way <10k for T2)

Except being able to buy end-game gear is an issue in and of itself.

It is an issue primarily for people that have a large amount of one comodity, time, and want that commodoty to control the game through BoP.

    1. True
    2. How about exploring all the amazing content, ah well right the game is fresh out of the gates and lacking content. How about re-challenging those amazing dungeons with unique character builds? Ah right, the dungeons are boring gear farming instances and class builds are still rather rigid without multiple paragon paths and limited influence from feats.

The time to change from boe to bop was 6 months ago. Going to bop changes the very core of the game. Bop makes the game into a grind.

Why not? Winning on need binds the item to the character that wins. Winning on greed keeps it bind on equip. Need automatically initiates the same bind mechanic already in place.

Bop makes the game into a grind.

LOL, Everyone who opposes this change is missing the point. You need some "carrot", some "grind", in order to keep people logging in day after day. You also need some way for people to "show-off" their accomplishments and not their bank accounts. As it is, I can drop 100$ in zen and have all the best gear in the game. I'll get bored after a few days with nothing to set my sights on (no carrot on the stick, per-se) and quit playing. At least this way, I have a reason to chase down gear and kill bosses. It makes gear pieces the TROPHIES they should be, not just the status-quo as it is now.

Edit: Just wanted to add, this change is bringing me BACK to the game, along with several of my friends. BRAVO devs. Thank you for listening.

Actually if you read the original post it, this idea allows for your ego to be rubbed, while not changing the base format of the game. Unfortunately bringing you and your friends back will not offset the people that leave because the game is going to become more grind based.

I like it too, several good solutions to problems that MMO developers seem intent on fixing (that dont NEED fixing)

    Go figure...

I would like to see something like this implemented too.
