I started this game out with the standard computer/laptop interface of Encounters placed at Q, E, and R. At-Wills being Left-Mouse, Right-Mouse and Daily's at 1 & 2. Today I logged in and found myself in combat, only to learn that my At-Wills and my Encouters aside from R, had been changed to joystick.
I do not own, have never used, and lack the drivers for a joystick. Further searching for a fix/the keybinds window, which at first was not available to me and only appeared after I relogged in to the same issue, showed me that somehow my defaults were changed to joystick.
This change in defaults means I can no longer use Left-Mouse Right-Mouse and instead am forced with Left-Click Right-Click which strangely enough makes my character just autoattack whereas before I attacked only when I hit the button, and stopped attacking when I stopped hitting the button. Now I start attacking and continue attacking and I can't stop attacking. My character continually attacks unless I hit Right-Click for my second At-Will attack which is a ranged attack that requires a target. If there is no target, she gets a warning and stops.
I'm not sure if anyone here understands my problem or the reason why I consider this autoattacking a problem. I've played a few MMO's and one of the biggest turn offs was the auto attacking. I just sat there and watched my character whack away, then stop when combat was over. That bored me, and a eventually stopped playing.
Neverwinter so far has meant I need to focus on combat, because it does have twitch controls. I like that. I like that alot. It makes the MMO experience more engaging for me. I especially liked the ability to dodge incoming attacks, stopping my character from attacking to do so.
Now that doesn't work. I can't dodge without my character swinging her blades, and instantly she goes right back into the foray one step at a time if I do, negating the effects of the dodge.
This is a major problem, and has put me off continuing to play. I don't like it. I'm not sure why it suddenly started (literally today) but I really don't like it. I'm not sure if its considered a bug, but since when I started the combat system and hotkeys/keybinds were completely different, I think it might be. I've relogged in and relogged out and nothings changed. Now I'm not sure if I even want to play with combat/hotkeys stuck this way. I want my original hotkey/keybind defaults back. It's very, very frustrating.
open your Cryptic Studios\Neverwinter\Life folder and look for a file called "ui_settings.txt" and delete it. start the launcher. This should force the client/launcher to replace the file with the default.
When you return to the game and your keybinds are working properly, type the following /bind_save_file filename.txt then hit enter. This will save your keybinds to a file of your choosing (replace <filename.txt> with whatever you want .txt). If you ever need to load these settings (alts, keybinds mess up again) just type in /bind_load_file filename.txt.
Open the Launcher. Click Options near the top. Check Disable on-demand patching. This will download another couple of gigs.

I do not see a "ui_settings.txt" file in my Cryptic/Neverwinter/Live folder. I've checked every subfolder, and looked through every file. There is no "ui_settings.txt"
Well, apparently Cryptic isn't interested in doing anything for folks who want to use a traditional RPG control layout. Too bad, I enjoyed what little I played of it. I wish them luck with this attitude.
A control system that I can't remap to my liking is a deal breaker.

I am having the same problem. Reset to default keeps it set as the joystick for no reason. I can't change the 1st keybind to the correct things either. however, i can set the 2nd keybind list to the correct ones. this has only happened on one of my computers and not the other so this can't be an over default change i wouldn't think. i am assuming that it is a bug.
I just started having this issue today, as well. The 'left press' option seems to have become unavailable for the standard 'at-will' ability. I put it as 'left click'--which causes me to auto-attack endlessly until I press my 2nd 'at-will.'
Edit-- **This happened after I played in the Foundry tool. When I completely closed the game and relaunched, I was able to assign 'left press' again, and the auto-attacking stopped.**
It happens after using the foundry on your account, both my cw and rogue are now affected by the autoattacking and joystick keybind disease and I haven't found any answer so far
