Purple force field?

I was in a Dungeon Delve in Ebon Downs. Multiple high-damage attackers surrounded and killed my Control Wizard.

When reviving at the campsite, there was some kind of transparent purplish barrier - as if a force field - preventing me from rejoining my team. In a group endeavor, this involuntary separation is ... highly problematic.

Whats up with this barrier?

You were fighting a boss, Bosses aren't meant to be easy. Hence you cant go back in and fight.

Ok, but this would have been nice to know in advance. It was bewildering to be left stranded, while still remaining on the team list. The fellow teammembers were strangers, who also didnt understand what was going on. The situation created a poor gaming experience.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. And now you know.

Most MMO's do this and it's not like its game breaking. Just get over it and try not to die.

Look, I have never played an MMO. The reason I am playing Neverwinter is because of D&D.

I have to say, the veiled insults and general hostility makes this community unappealing. Thick skin or not.

This isnt an insult. I never called you any names or anything.

It's mostly because bosses should be challenging. Since the game really doesn't have any sort of death penalty other than the injury thing, if you could just pop right back up, you could zerg the boss down, ignoring everything other than simply dpsing him. Dps, die, run back in, repeat until he drops. This way when you die and no one helps you up, you are out of the fight. Everyone can help anyone else up, so if a party member goes down during a boss fight, unless you are actively doing something else very important, drop everything and help them up, they should do the same for you. Everyone dies, you start over and boss heals up to full.

Its called a lock out. And it is a fairly standard mechanic to increase the difficulty of some fights. It is also a mechanic Cryptic tends to use a lot as a crutch.

The idea being if you could simply die and rush back into the fright, it eliminates death as a deterrent. Bosses could simply be worn down by constantly rushing at it until you simply just out last it.

I agree, there needs to be a bit more warning. Not everyone is a jaded MMO vet. Some simple notice that if you release you wont be able to join the fight again, should be more then enough.

Personally, id like to see a bit more in the way of resurrection beyond the zen store scrolls. Some in game mechanic or Cleric ability would be helpful and not diminish the basic need to try to stay alive in a boss fight.

Heh, no, your post was in the "general hostility" category: "Just get over it and try not to die".

The veiled insult category was the preceding post: "It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure it out".

No big deal. Just pointing out, there seems too often unfriendliness. This is supposed to be a fun place to be, right?

    Yeah, that would have helped.

I totally agree. Plus, resurrection is appropriately a Cleric thing. That would be cool.

This is actually a more appropriate mechanic for a D&D-themed game. In PnP if you die, you're out of the fight without a rez.

This is understandable. You have never played an MMO, I think a warning should be added to make this clear to all players. Most MMO's have a warning so people know that they can no longer re-join the fight or be able to get loot.

wtf, you still get the loot if your party manages to kill the boss.

And this mechanic isnt in every instance, Spellplaque caverns, you can re-enter the fight for the 1 and 2 boss. only at the endboss you cant re-enter anymore.
