Thoughts as to which is better, and why?

From my understanding, the major differences are as follows:

Cat
255 Crit
255 Recovery
Neck, waist, ring

Stone
163 Power
163 Recovery
163 Crit
Neck, icon,ring

Is that right?

keep in mind there are 2 ion stones make sure your comparing the correct one
also keep in mind what the rarities are. a purple companion can get much higher than a blue or green by design right now

also keep in mind at max level most people are easily getting into diminishing returns on their main stats and the bonuses are a negligible improvement. Of course you have to stack all the little bits, but I'm just saying. A 0.5% difference is not even in the same universe as breaking your character.

The Ioun Stone has an Icon as opposed to the Belt slot for the cat. Most belts are designed for defensive slots/enchantments. The Icon can slot offensive. The stone is better for pure dps. If you want more defensive stats then the cat is the way to go.

Not so, sir. If you have a cat/stone you can pull all of your azure/silvery enchs and replace them with radiant for power or dark for ArPen. Heck, you can even stack Tenebrous. It also gives a lot of defense/deflect (if geared so) which caps quickly only for GF/GWF.
