Is it intended to only be used as a veteran skill to create armor for newbie players? Because I simply cannot grind my skill up at even a quarter of the speed my character progresses, so I cannot use anything I make. Ever.
I can appreciate that you level up quickly, which appeals to casual gamers, but attempting to craft for your character this way is exceptionally frustrating. Is this by design?
As someone who loves being self-sufficient in real life, I'd like to make my own armor if I'm a platesmith. If it's not exceptionally super rare, that's fine. That's why finding loot in game is for; I'd be perfectly happy with white or green armor I made myself that is level appropriate. But I'm level 40 without trying and simply stopped playing the character to try to let my crafting skills catch up. I thought that'd be enough but daily invoking is leveling me faster than my crafting skills are.
Can someone explain if I'm doing something wrong, or suggest how this could be fixed if this is by design?

You aren't doing anything wrong.....I believe crafting is a money sink pretty much. If you got the AD to back it up you can rush all your crafting for the AD cost and go through leveling your craft faster. The amount of time it takes to level those crafts I just went with leadership instead. I still get use out of it and at least its something I can use. Now that im level 60 I have time if I want to level my tailoring up but the motivation for this crafting (i use that term loosely, very loosely) is next to nil.
My hopes were actually kind of high for crafting in this game I wanted it to be so much more. I enjoy crafting and gathering of materials but this is just the STO duty officer system and it's disappointing.

I wish I could spend character XP and exchange it at some insanely low rate into crafting XP. At least that'd be fun. Or if there were crafting missions in the game where I could get XP that way without getting mission XP.
Nope, this is it. It's not "crafting" at all
-- it's hiring underlings to go place on-demand custom orders from real craftsman and merchants.
"Squire... go buy me a pair of new trousers."
"Squire... escort this merchant to the next city."
"Squire... fetch me a tankard of ale."
Give an order and wait. w00t! Good times.
"Crafting?" - epic fail.

I agree. "Crafitng" here like a browser game. 'Wait 5 hours for this to be done' And a money sink. Aand you cant make weapons. Is it so hard to at least, if the have no better idea, copy WoW crafting?^^

Its not a bad system really, good for lazy ones like me XD. And answering to op, crafting is good for doing the 60 shirts and pants with socket, tahst pretty much it. You wont find any other better than this ones in the game. Also leadership is a very valuable proffession too.

Yeah...that sucks. I noticed that on shirts and shorts. And leadership was the only one that seemed appealing at first. What's the point of having a game that isn't a grindfest only to make the 'crafting' a grindfest?

The one thing I do not get is the reason why they used this system for crafting. STO has this system as a duty officer system that gives you small rewards, HOWEVER they still have crafting. For the life of me I cannot figure out why there isnt traditional crafting in this game. I really wanted to be a crafter/merchant in this game (i know i could still be one but its not an enjoyable method.)

well if u craft for ur twinks its ok. but yeah, pretty much isn't that great a deal.
nice idea with the gateway though.
But I agree, for the time u spend to get it to high levels u should expect better gear.
In most games unless crafting is limited by levels you can almost always get better gear by just leveling. however this game does have leadership which gives AD, and boxes that have potions and id scrolls :P Its also much easier to level than any other craft. Im figuring other crafts are still good for titles and opening slots for leadership, also you can sometimes sell stuff to other crafters.

well, the rare items u can craft aren't that bad, and they give u some decent AD in the AH.

Which is why I'd be OK with the rare stuff requiring much higher levels?
But as it stands you level so fast that spending money on anything worth a **** at lower levels is like...well like buying expensive clothes for a two-year old. They're going to grow out of it so quickly it's not worth the investment.
