I know, I know, the only winning move is to always roll "need". However, I don't want to play that way. In every MMO that I played I managed to get gear just fine without Need-festing everything.
However, I'm faced with a quandry in *this* game. Namely unidientified items with no means of identifying them prior to "need/greed/pass. If I can't use something I always greed/pass but if the item isn't red to me I have to "need" it. Oftentimes it turns out I didn't need it but its long after the fact.
I'm not sure why they insist on everything being unidentified (if I had my guess I'd say it's becaue identify scrolls cost RW money, but I couldn't say since I don't recall ever running out). Eventually is going to know what gear drops anyway so might as well make dungeon/skirmish drops (blue and above perhaps?) identified by default (you could still de-indentify it in their inventory making them burn a scroll if you want)
I have to admit I would like it if any item that came up for a roll automatically identified itself (at least for the time period that it was being rolled on). It can land in a player's inventory unidentified but while we are rolling on it we should be able to see what it does.
I have taken the exact opposite strategy as you. If I see a green drop that is unidentified I simply always roll greed (even when I am in a party with a person that is rolling need on everything). I simply assume that all green drops are not going to be worth the cost of a scroll to identify and let them go. If I do win a green drop from greed I sell it to a merchant without identifying it. Scrolls are more valuable than most greens.
Yoit is the type of player I hate grouping with. Its common MMO etiquette you dont need on something if you, yourself cannot use it. Needing on something just so you can sell it is a d-bag move.

Agreed, thats why I always wait to see what other party members do, if they start needing on things they can't use I suggest to the grp from that point we all just need.
I roll Need on blues+ that I can use, I roll Greed on other blues & some greens, and I pass on the rest of the greens and any blues if I've already won one during a dungeon run.
I simply kick people out of the group before we even start if they have a stupid name and/or look like the type to Need on everything. Most times my group is only one person as I roll a dungeon.
(Disclaimer: DUe to PW's policy, I still can't make my own threads. Since this is a similar topic....)
THAT'S IT! I'M ROLLING NEED ON EVERYTHING AND YOU CAN ALL LIKE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!!!!!
Oh, Mr. Control Wizard, you wanted that purple item? Sorry, it's mine and you can like it or leave! Mr. Trickster Rogue, did you need that purple item? Nope, I'll take that too! And best yet, I will act like a HAMSTER running ahead of my group, ahead of the healer, die to swarms and then wait until the encounter is over and BUWAHAHAHAHAHA loot it all and do it again and again. WHy work for it if I can let you do all the work and then reap the rewards????
Oh, and don't bother tryign to kick me, I'm the group leader. BUWAHAHAHA.
/rant off.
Seriously. I've had the WORST dungeon runs once hit level 60 and I swear everyone fairly distributes TR, CW, and GWF and GF gear, but no, when the purple cleric gear is going to drop in the dungeons I run, I get stuck with all the NEED happy, gonna take it all, bungholes that draw the same breath of air as I do. I've lost countless cleric items that WOULD HAVE BEEN AN UPGRADE, time and time again and honestly, I am getting sick of it.
PW needs to come out with a better, smarter, rolling system soon. All I have left to do is end game content atm, and seriously...getting stuck with loot-tards time and time again is not how I envision myself 'enjoying' myself.
So, as I said, I am going to roll NEED on everything. Be prepard. However, if I win it and you NEED it (i.e. you are the RIGHT class and you allow me to inspect you) I will gladly hand over my ill-gotten gains to their rightful owner. No more of this is going into the hands of gold farmers (willingly).
Oh, and I will not be going into a party without ever being leader, so I can kick you fellas I suspect of being happy NEED-tards.

Simple way to fix this is to enable the "need" option only IF the item is for the class they are playing. If not greed or pass.
I can honestly say in all the games I have played and I have been playing since Asherons Call first went live I have never come across a gaming community such as this one in dungeons. In every dungeon I have gone through so far there has been at least one who chose "need" on every item. Usually that is a rare thing, but for some reason on this game it isn't.
People will do whatever the game lets them get away with. And in its present state, the game encourages this needtarded behavior.
Greed is fine, don't get me wrong. I'm with Gordon Gecko on this one. By all means greed away. But if an item pops up that I cannot actually equip then I should not even have a 'need' button; by definition I can only want that item for greed's sake. If I can't equip it, greed and pass should be my only options.
Until they fix this, expect needtards. The days when the average stranger in an MMO could be counted on to behave with a shred of human decency are behind us.
I hate rolling "need" on greens that aren't identified. How do I know I need it if I don't know what it is? But if I Greed on it, maybe I'm missing out on a real sweet ring or whatever... I generally roll "need" if it's for my class, but feel bad when I end up identifying it and vendor trashing most of it...
I have been very lucky with my pug groups, 95% i get people that greed on gear they have no use of. enchants etc everyone needs so its common practise. Dont even need to ask befor runs.
But i agree that if you cant use it you should not have a need option at all.
idk what all this is about in at 13k GS and have been dungeoneering for a long time now and I have met a total of maybe 3 people that have rolled need on **** they dont need
here on Beholder, everyone rolls need on enchants runestones and mats, rolls greed on all unidentified and needs anything they really need
i like the 'not guilty until accused and handled' attitude and i feel proud to play with people who have this innate ethic. who are you people playing with

It's people like you that ruin it for everyone else.
