As the title says. Could someone with a reasonable command of the English language catch me up on what's been going on? No need to go into details but a brief explanation would be handy thanks. The forums are in such a dissaray that it's hard to make sense of.

Also I understand that the auction house and AD exchange is down.

When I visit the AH in game it opens and shows me to have no items for sale. Am I to understand that all my items will return when trading opens? Anyone had word on that?

Thank you in advance for your kind and helpful post ;)

There was an exploit that allowed the ah to be compromised through gateway. they took gateway and ah down, and they will be down for at least 24 hours to patch the exploit. No word on how they intend to rectify the damage done to the economy.

Goes way beyond that, but that is the jist of it. There were thousand of epics, cats, mounts given away, sold cheap, all ZEN bought out on servers..its a complete mess.

On top of all the other things that have happen, I am afraid only a FULL WIPE (with Zen refunded) will even start to fix the problems

Similar to a bug that was in Borderlands 2. Trade for -$, and you get that amount back.

thanks. Wipe? Never going to happen. The cost to the company in lost revenue ( which is what a global zen refund from legitimate purchases would be, ) and man hours to enable that ( the refund part, mostly ) would be catastrophic to PWE. I expect that someone at Cryptic will be enjoying his new ***hole some time soon. Heads may even roll over this one.

(pwe don't manage their games in any way. Gateway may have been on the parent company's servers but that's just good sense. The whole thing would have been managed by the development arm of the company, i.e. cryptic. PWI as a company are well known for being hands off on their games. They just market the stuff.

There was a basic exploit with the gateway access to the auction house. This was apparently known and kept quiet by a small group of players since closed beta. Last night the knowledge of how to do it got out and was widely exploited. Today Cryptic has shut down the gateway and the zen exchange frozen the Auction House pending fixes and punishment being handed out.

Basically there was a way to exploit the gateway to manufacture Astral Diamonds and effectively buy any item off of the Auction House such that the seller got 1 AD and the buyer got tonnes of AD and the item.

The people doing this then turned around and massively bought Zen from the zen exchange. Thus the Zen exchange also being down currently.

The devs are clearly working on it but we don't have any real information beyond that.

That is your summary at this time.

Oh then there are the people running around screaming that they want their money back. Others screaming that they want the game wiped, and others that they want a rollback though since the problem actually existed from closed beta you would have to do a wipe to have an effective rollback. And last others like me who would rather wait and see what Cryptic actually does rather than run around forming mobs just because mobs are cool.

I think you are right, they will not do a full wipe, which is sad.

I really do feel its the only way to correct everything..

Full wipe, refund the ZEN (not cash) to those that bought it..and carry on.

It is WAY to late to just fix the exploits...

And thank you all for the helpful replies..

..and as I am about to post I'm booted from the game and the server is unavailable. I guess it's brute force damage limitation time for them.

Fail to see how they can fix this without a restart. the mind boggles, it's people's actual cash we are dealing with here. I know you Americans like your litigation. Class action if no refunds? I know a guy with a good track record in representing such groups ;)

I agre with the full wipe + full refund ZEN (not cash) + AD bonus refund for founder packs + AD bonus to all players (since they screwed up, like 100-400k AD) + gear bonus for all players (since they screwed up like a tier 1 set)
