Great Weapon Fighter or Guardian Fighter?

So I am wanting to have a lot of dps; however, as well as being able to survive through mini bosses well without having to carry tons of pots and kits. My question for you is which should I go with Great Weapon Fighter or Guardian Fighter? Also which race should I chose as well that gives best racial skills and stats for the class I eventually go with? FYI no HOrc...

Thanks

GWF is good for AOE dps in dungeon. Not much as a tank or even off-tank if you are on DPS build tree. Apparently, you will have to bring lot of pots anyways. GF, on other hand, great at defense and generate threat, rather low dps, high survior rate.
But if you want to do a ton of DPS, I think you should reconsider rolling a GWF, instead, TR or CW might be a better choice.
I had the same thought as you when I rolled my GWF. But after hit 60 with 9k1 GS, GWF is not exactly what I expected. (It's true that you can kill a target in 3 encounters and 1 daily if they r all hit & critical strikes, other than that.. well )
I'm gonna roll a TR after got full purple gears for my GWF, just hope TR is not nerfed so much before then :p
My advice, if you want to be a group lead in dungeon, facing a lot of dmg and still standing then roll GF. If you want to deal massive dps AOE, GWF or CW. Tons of dps, TR then.
I saw a lot of Orc GWF and Dwarf GF, not sure about racial advantage but you might want to take a look at it.

Human and Half Orc seem to be the best choices from a min/max perspective for GWF. Also, they can be semi tanky if built for it and do massive aoe/add control late game and can easily top damage. Just look around for some videos.

Single target damage on the GWF is going to be third at best. AoE damage will be number one if you are a destroyer or instigator. Destroyer sacrifices some AoE burst damage for more sustained damage on single targets along with a little more flexibility. GWF is the least survivable class in the game, believe it or not. You will chug and buy more potions on the GWF than any other class on an "offensive" build.

The defensive GWF is nice for solo play but garbage in groups. They sacrifice a lot of damage for the sake of survival which would be all right if they could generate threat. Because they have absolutely horrid on demand threat mechanics though never, ever, make the mistake of thinking you are any sort of tank, add or otherwise, in the GWF current iteration of the Sentinel Paragon tree.

Guardian Fighter is a true tank. They have tons of on demand threat mechanics and the most ability to survive and not need potions in the game. There are some builds that can do OK damage, but in end game you will be steadily in the 4th or 5th spot in damage. So really, the answer is neither.

I honestly would play a TR or CW over either of them. GWF is a squishy mess of non threat and the GF is a walking shield without much else to them. A good TR or good CW can lead damage depending on the fight, and they have plenty of survival tools that are available much more often than the gimp GWF.

I have played five GWF now, all with different types of builds. In CB3 I did a pure offense Destroyer. CB4 I did a pure defense Destroyer. OB I did a Sentinel, Destroyer / Instigator, Sentinel. The levels reached were 47, 50, 38, 60, 39. I am still leveling the 39 Sentinel, going for all defense and Str, Con over Str, Dex offensive builds.

I can say for solo play the Sentinel is far superior. For PvE group and PvP the Destroyer and Instigator.

The CW is doing a lot of damage off of a bug currently, but played well, with the right sort of control build, they are second only to the guardian in survival. But you have to work at it, you can't just face roll the keyboard. The TR is an easier play style, more straight forward, less things to keep track of, and is probably not only the strongest class in the game, but by far the most survivable when you factor damage done versus taken. The only drawback to the TR is that they don't handle groups too well. Which is a pretty big facet of the game. So there really is no perfect class, though the TR and CW are light years ahead of any fighter, GWF or GF.
