The title sums up my question. I would rather plant with my shield then lunge forward and past the mobs I'm trying to hold.

You could try holding Ctrl when doing it. It might stop you moving forward.

I agree with you, Star. I absolutely HATE the lunge on this attack. If I need to close a gap between myself and an enemy, I'll just use my level 35 at-will rush attack. The lunge on this more often than not will lunge me past an enemy and give them or another enemy combat advantage against me, and if I'm in the middle of swinging, then I have to wait for my attack to finish before finally being able to reposition myself properly. It's more annoying than useful, I wish I could disable it.
You have no idea how many times I do this on groups of mob in dungeons. I just go sliding away. I can only imagine what my groups think when they see me do it over and over.

I still have not been able to figure out a way to just plant my feet and guard. Locking on to the target doesn't seem to help (thanks for the idea).
