Beta or not Beta?

OK, I'm in a bit of a quandry... is this game in beta or not? I'd be more than happy to jump in and start but for the fact that I don't know if there will be a "release" that ends up wiping out my beta characters.

/facepalm - waves vaguely at the 20,000 locked arguements on this topic.

No wipe. Cryptic and Perfect World are calling it a beta launch but have stated there will be no wipe.

No I don't need to see that stupid screen shot that proves nothing. Some players want to call the game launched because that some how makes them feel smug I guess.

Open Betas rarely, if ever get deleted, unless there's massive bugged and exploited HAMSTER throughout the entire populace.

Consider this Pre-Release with alot of spit-shining required. You're more or less permanent, since they wouldn't open the Zen Store without it being ready for public use. Just keep reporting nasty bugs to make it a quicker ride to a polished game.

Its 'Open Beta', i.e. the same as a launch so no more wipes.

'Open Beta' designation just means that in case anything goes wrong PWE and all their fanboyz can ignore complaints as it is still in 'Beta'.

It's not about ignoring complaints. It's about getting the things being complained about fixed.

It -is- ignoring the "I quit because this is broken!" because it's beta: Stuff is going to be broken and will need to be fixed.

So, if its open beta. Then it should be TRUE open BETA (strongly enforce the word BETA)...

So, the Cash shop should be thrown in this as well...
We should have ALREADY seen a fix to the Auction house search

Consider this too... Here it comes, something revolutionary..... Cross server Queuing. Oh no, I said it! Since you completely borked the XP gain on Foundry, it is near impossible to get a Dungeon done Pre-60 to complete the daily's. Throw Skirmishes in there too. (Also, the whole loot thing does not help with this either.)

::Sigh:: I know it is useless but anyway here goes.

The reason they are listing it as beta is that core game engine and mechanics are done. They are unlikely to make any drastic changes in class/power structures and how they work in the next year or two. But there is not much depth there. 4E has essentially lots of varients on wizard, fighter, cleric, etc and NWNO doesn't.

Additionally the mission path is somewhat shallow. IE you can quest from 1 to 60 but your always going to take the same quest path right now. Typically for launch this is something that gets work and I would bet is being worked on right now. Note there are complaints that there isn't a lot to do at 60. This is more an artifact of it being beta than it being just being to shallow at launch. As time passes more will be added for level 60 to do. That is one of the projects they will be working on.

Moving back to classes. The alpha had actual multiple paragon paths for each existing class to try. Clearly they focused on getting the powers in 1 Paragon Path per class finished for the open beta. At some point in the next few months we should see more paragon paths and powers become available. Again something missing that is needed for a formal launch.

The gear models are just a little lacking. While there are some differences to be seen from level 1 - 60 it is fairly subtle and what exists doesn't come in a palette other than shades of blue-grey currently. Not that I don't mind blue-grey but it would be nice to get gear that was more colorful. Again something that will be expanded on during the next several months.

So the basic game is functional and solid and working but it currently lacks depth. And that is what needs to be fixed before it moves from beta to live.

::sigh:: I tried but I expect no one will pay attention.
