Now I understand that for a game to be free to play that micro-transaction is a necessary venue for business. However... NO player likes to be forced, or feel forced, to put money in. Now I am a Guardian Pack Founder. I put $120.0 into the game from the get-go (2 accounts one for me and one for my wife). I am not complaining about the cash shop it is understandable. I merely have a suggestion.
For lockboxes specifically, I believe an item needs to be introduced into the economy. I propose a "Lockbox Pry-Bar" item that is rarely dropped from mobs, as well as available from the Astral market for a reasonable price... lets say 500 - 1000 Astral Diamonds (on average through all activities in a day a person can earn upwards of 8000 Astral Diamonds or more). This "Pry-Bar" will provide another way to open the Lockboxes for premium items.
However, this is at chance. I would say that the Pry-Bar can open a Lock Box at a 10% chance (reasonable considering the value of a lockbox for the company). However if you try to 'pry' open the lock box and it fails (90% chance to fail) both the pry bar and lockbox are destroyed, as (in lore even) the key hole would be irrevocably damaged.
What this promotes is continued interaction with PvE content to 1 drop the Lockboxes, 2 to rarely drop the Pry-Bars, and 3 increase Astral Diamond trade. This also serves to drive the purchasing of Lockbox keys as people that do not want to break their lockbox will opt to go the 100% chance to open the box via the Zen purchased key.
However, this also promotes the free to play model and gives those that either can't afford zen a way to open the lock box, as well as drives the in game economy as the Market will not be entirely sided to those that can afford Zen, it'll be harder for those that can't get Zen, but possible. Currently those that can't get Zen, have to wait days to build up enough Astral to attempt to purchase Zen from the Astral-Zen market. This is heightened, not due to player laziness, but because their is a cap to how much Astral can be 1 earned in a day, and 2 converted in a day imposed by game mechanics.
This idea is only a start I believe many more items or functions could be added that will not only increase players willingness to invest astral, but also increase the amount of Zen purchased (arguably good for the company) as the economy will be much more fluid with the inclusion of more items.
Please consider this method, and for those that agree please comment below.
Its an interesting idea. An AD sink for sure. I dont' think the devs would create this but as someone who has spent a lot on keys and running low on the much needed funds to supply them I wouldn't be opposed.
Good suggestion in that it well thought out and not a whine. Personally I am not a fan of it I think it will cut down on a lot of zen purchases and I need people out there paying for my gaming time. Clearly they are selling crazy amiunt of keys based off number of system spam messadez about people getting horse. I just think in a f2p game this type of purchase is perfect as it does not really unbalance anything. A horse that is a little better. A decent companion. Bars used for decent gear....but nothing unbalancing. Sounds like the perfect implementation of cash shop (speaking in respect to lockbox only there)
they could just allow the enchanted keys to be extremely rare drop items from mobs. just make it around a 0.1 or 0.01% chance. Dont forget you can buy keys off the AH.
Open the Launcher. Click Options near the top. Check Disable on-demand patching. This will download another couple of gigs.
the auction house key prices are ridiculous 80,000 for one key? all i know is that the lockbox u can buy for 200 AD so selling them on auction house is pointless, do like i do just throw them away there junk, the only thing they do is take up an inventory slot in my bags do your self a favor and throw them away lol

either a prybar or daily quests for half key pieces would be very reasonable for all of the players and not just the people purchasing from the shop

There is no forcing anyone to do anything.
Why does everyone think that opening the lockboxes is forced on them?
There is nothing in the box anyone "needs"
Its a neat looking mount, another useless companion, some crafting garbage, or vendor trash.
With this "pry-bar" nonsense you are trying to reinvent the wheel. Why do they need to implement an item that will accomplish something that can already be done in game. Here are your options when it comes to lockboxes:
1) Buy Zen, Buy keys
2) Farm AD, trade for Zen, Buy Keys (same thing as buying a "pry-bar" from another player...)
3) Type "/zone Free lockboxes to anyone who wants them, just open a trade with me"
4) Put the lockboxes on the AH for 20-30AD
5) Put the lockboxes in your guild bank for someone else to open
6) Don't pick the lockboxes up (just walk around them...they are pretty easy to see)
7) Mail the lockboxes to yourself to hold them for later use without wasting inventory or bank space
8) Mail the boxes to yourself then delete the mail
so...with the above 8 options, I don't see any way that you are possibly being FORCED to open the boxes.
When I read your post here's what I get out of it:
"I want to open boxes but I don't want to pay. Let me open the boxes for free."
Honestly I just really wish there was some other way to get Enchanted keys or a pry bar chance or anything along those lines. I really hope that they will end up making another way to get enchanted keys instead of having to buy them with zen. I personally am upset with the fact of how often nightmare lock boxes can drop from enemies (I have about 20+ boxes and 16 on AH before the HAMSTER storm that erupted) The fact that you get AD from daily quests and other events. I guess i'm frustrated how often they are but how you have to pay to win essentially. I and even making keys buyable from the bounty hunters from areas such as tower district and neverdeath graveyard but making one key 150-250 would work perfect in my opinion or making them purchasable with seals. I really hope that the developers read this thread because I really don't want to buy a ton of keys and end up getting HAMSTER items.
It will never happen. Stop suggesting something that isn't going to happen. It is a completely free to play game. Why would they take their hottest sale item and make it a drop or tradable?

A: This company is ran by a bunch of monkeys.
Correct...but it still will never happen.
