DDO Players...What do you think?

I tried to search for any DDO specific threads, but it seems they don't want you searching "DDO" in these forums.

I just downloaded NWO last night and will be logging on to give it a shot later today. I love DDO and don't expect to give it up, but since I also love D&D...this was a natural.

I am a guild leader on Cannith (Legion of Eberron) and we have a pretty active guild.

I will come back later and post my thoughts DDO vs. NWO. What is your opinion so far?

DDO is much more D&D but this is much better for solo play, I haven't played DDO since it switched to f2p though so I'm basing it on DDO back then.

this is 100% nothing like DDO, DDO, to me, seemed like a fairly complex game, this is much more action RPGish than anything else. If you come into this expecting DDO levels of customization, you are going to be VERY disappointed.

It is hard to say. DDO is 3.5 NWN is 4.0

3.5 ruleset vs 4.0 is vastly different in terms of mechanics. The downside is the lack of choices (currently for each class)
To me, they are D&D (debatable among other players but the basics are there) not all options/features are in NWN, but I'm sure it will expand as the game matures.
To grow old is inevitable, to grow up is optional.
Please review my campaign and I'll return the favor.

    Two completely different games.

I loved DDO's quest packs. I loved multiclassing.

Neverwinter is, in my opinion, a better game. The gameplay is tighter and less of the standard MMO mana management hotbar cooldown design. It leads to a more action-oriented style of D&D which is what I (Generally) prefer. I just hope the beholders, here, are as awesome as they were in DDO.

Great Weapon Fighter tanks? Who are you kidding? Cleric tanks. They draw -all- the aggro.

    LOL - nice one ;)

As an DDO player I think i will be playing both. The Foundry is amazing and the story quest is quite fun. However, in many ways NWO is currently fairly limited and class (in)balance is frankly ridiculous. Add to the fact that to equip a single character with a full set of bags, bank space, mount and upgraded companion is going to cost $50 or so is pretty off-putting for a person like me who wants to play several alts. I suspect I will simply have a single main (perhaps two) and quite a few alts on which I just run Foundry quests.

I was founder for D&DO , I really liked it . It felt like old school d&d with a comp for the DM . But you need a regular group to play . If your not an ' acceptable ' class you couldn't find groups . So yeah you could be anything you wanted , but not in pug groups . My cleric tank was by far the gest tank in the game , just groups would refuse to get a second cleric to heal the rest of them .
I like this game the combat is very addictive , it feels more like I can control what happens . Not just mashing buttons , but hitting one at a time so I can move when I have to .

As a 3year DDO player i say DDO is of course a much more complete game (got more years and doom bugs under its belt) and with a more direct link to D&D rule set, or at least it was until last summer expantion changes. NW on the other hand play a bit loose with the rules but that is totaly ok cause the lore and D&D feel is there and the game is sheer raw fun. And for me personaly MORE FUN > Less FUN so for now i'll put DDO on hold for a while, tho i agree they are quite capable of coexisting.

I played, and still do, DDO from headstart way back in the day, I enjoy both. DDO is much, much closer to a D&D feel, with a much better ability to make a character you want. Not to mention with armors and weapons and skills. I like the more modern graphics here, along with the combat, but prefer the DDO store to this one. My biggest gripes with here are the lockboxes, which do feel like gambling, and bag space, with almost every bought in store is per character only. That really hampers my urge to play alts. I also am not too happy with the run fusing system here. It's like Tera, but once you get past level 4 runes, you NEED a stone to do it, 1% success chance otherwise, and those are pretty much only store items (can get lucky, but not really). Being able to move during attacking and casting in DDO, for an older game, but being rooted here really gets annoying. Really does feel more like Tera here with the combat and weapons being locked. The spell selection here is frankly terrible, but i am guessing it's because of lack of paragon paths, where those powers could be hiding, or lack of second class build (like war wizard). I am still baffled by the choice to soft launch with only five classes and one paragon path each. Although i am glad here i don't have dozens of action bars. ;)

DDO has been going what, seven years now? So of course it has more depth in some areas. I'm probably still going to play it, as it hits that D&D feel a lot better. I do feel the lack of paragon paths, other classes and gear looks, that this will probably be more an off and on game for me. The foundry is frankly genius, and that will keep me here longer, if DDO had that, i'd be there more. The combat here feels more addictive at times, when i'm not cursing being rooted while casting (start cast, red area appears under foot, get attacked before i can finish, ugh).

Currently i'd rank DDO higher than Neverwinter, but i feel Neverwinter can get there, as long as the other classes and paragon paths don't take too long to get in. Seeing as you can hit cap in a couple days just doing regular quests, if new classes take months to years to get in, then i'll just keep this like STO, when i get the itch for that particular type of game.

I've been on and off with DDO since it started, and only been playing NWO for a bit now. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but between the two it's a tough call for me. tfangel gets bonus points from me for hitting pretty much all the same things I feel. :D DDO had it's upper hand in the customization in my opinion. Not the looks department, but character building. I wish I could run around with any weapon of my choice, like you can in DDO. Being able to use a great sword or ******* swords as a rogue was fun in DDO, but here I feel that the option in weapons is kind of limited and 'blah' feeling. I wouldn't mind if they made it where you had different styles with each class. Rather then a cleric being stuck with his divine item, he can use mace and shield or even a hammer, I'd be happy. I think the other part that hits me is the lack of customization in the classes as well. Both Fighter classes and even Rogue have a lot compare to DDO, but I'd love to see more spells added for Cleric and Wizard. Maybe they will have more classes.

As for NWO, I do the simple game play and graphics. Gameplay is very simple and easy to work with. The feeling of having only 8-10 buttons to keep track of is a sigh relief compare to my 8 toolbars in DDO. :P Graphics as stated by others if more of modern feel, plus I don't feel like I'm staring at a 2D look of drawn faces (I know DDO is 3D based). The foundry is fun to work in and great idea! Now if only they could allow us to make servers/modules like NWN (and NWN2) did, that would be fantastic and cool! :P

Between the two, DDO does have the upper hand for me, because it's had time to build and grow. I think if NWO does things right, that they could easily get a large crowd if they add more customization options in the characters (more spells/powers for each character) and possibly open up the option for classes to any/all weapons, just certain classes get more bonuses (a rogue using daggers or a bow will get small little benies with those instead of using a great sword). If Neverwinter adds more classes and paragons, I hope they cover all basis (hopefully add Druids, Rangers, Monks, Warlocks, ect). :P
