I'm a rogue, and I was just wondering what my fellow rogue-players find to be the most effective skills! I'm currently using sly flourish, the dagger throw skill, the dazing attack, the behind-the-back teleport, and lunging strike (I think thats what it's called). If you can't tell, I don't know many of the skills by name lol, more by what they do!
I've tried a couple other skills and they mostly seem lackluster compared to these. The teleport skill seems almost necessary since it's so good...the dagger throw skill as well. Sly flourish I'm not sure on though, it seems really good for small enemies but I'm not sure if the duelist one is better for enemies with more health or not. So what skills are your favorites to use?
Hi. I'm also a rogue. Fairly low level one and I just turned level 22. I believe the good skills will mainly depend on what you're going to be doing at the end of your build.
I believe Sly Flourish is a keeper and you will not have another choice for a better at-will unless you'll go for Duelist's Fury which is slower than Sly Flourish thanks to its animation. But it deals higher damage, in my experience. The slowness of the animation for Duelist's Fury can be helped by stealth, because when you're using it while not at stealth, mobs tend to target you if you're playing solo. I'm not sure about Gloaming Cut, yet, but I'd like to try it out if I have the spare points. I'll be making a full stealth rogue and hopefully make my role significant for parties.
So far I like Bait and Switch as well, and the Daily that regenerates your stealth bar longer. Really helpful in gaining combat advantage, as well as hitting things without getting hit back unless it's an AoE.
For all strong mobs, Duelist's Flurry is the way to go, but try to get a Lashing Blade in before the very end of your Stealth for that guaranteed critical. The slow start to the combo is certainly irritating, particularly when you have a CW casting Repel on mobs, even though you asked him repeatedly to PLEASE STOP DOING THAT, YOU KEEP INTERUPTING MY COMBOS YOU NUISANCE-JEALOUS-OF-MY-DPS WIZARD. But yes, it's defintely a good skill.
Bait and Switch is certainly useful but I find it to be a waste of an Encounter. Far better to use your Stealth to keep you alive, and your high DPS to drop targets before they drop you. I prefer Shadow Strike to Bait and Switch because to that end, it fully replenishes your Stealth bar, wherein you are safe from harm AND able to re-position yourself to do that sweet damage. Between that, the duration of Stealth itself, and of course Lurking Assault, you're able to stay in Stealth more often than you're not.
Yes, what's good for mindless PvE mobs is not good for PvP. I think I said it elsewhere, the only time Duelist's Flurry might work in PvP is if you're paired with a trusty CW and coordinate with his stuns, but that's a bit too specialised. Sly Flourish is far more reliable, as well as the ranged At-will from which casters can't so easily escape

I was wondering if anyone can comment on what to bring to dungeon groups. I found the dagger throw skill not handy because it makes me stationary and I wish we could use it while running to a mob. The teleport is really nice, it places us right where we wanna be. The Bait and Switch though, I use it while in stealth to get a 2nd full bar of stealth. Duelist Flurry seems nice on harder opponents but i wonder if the slow build-up outdamages the dagger throw skill or even Sly Flourish. Last dungeon run I was 2nd in dmg done and the other rogue was 3 lvls lower but did 100k more dmg (me 600k, he 710k).
i just made a rogue. lvl 5 atm.... I would love to see someone put out a up to date guide on the Rogue... I'm having a bllast so far but I think the GWF is better at these lvls.. Might just be because I just lvled my GWF to 38 and not playing a new class with only 1 ability.. Not sure... As far as going through these instance's fast the GWF wins that.. TO be able to AOE everything is just amazing... I'm only lvl 5 so i will have to see....One is Single target and the other is AOE.. They seem balance to me.... One can't do what the other can do.... Isn't that what they call balance?
Disclaimer - I'm level 38 so far...
For dungeons, which so far I have always topped, this is what I do
Dex/Cha rogue, focusing on power gear
Sly flourish
Duelists Furry
Blitz or Daze, depending on the fight
Lashing Blade
Bait and Switch - used in AOE circles only for almost instant Daily
I chose all feats giving me more combat advantage or action points first, and then +to damage and crit.
I use whirl of blades on trash for mad deeps, or lurkers assault on bosses (combo'd with duelists flurry). I get to use these dailies a ton... Also with this build, you need to be using your dailies almost as soon as they come up. Obviously use some discretion, but holding onto them with how often they pop doesn't make sense.
I have yet to be outdamaged by another rogue who isn't using the first 2 default skills. So far, all the skills past level 20 suck, but i'm only high 30's at the moment.

Nice description of skill later on with scores for PVE and PVP.
And this post if you want to look at other classes.

Works for me so far....
