Weapon damage?

This is a general combat question.

What exactly do the 2 damage figures represent on a weapon ( ### - ###)?
Is this part of a formula and thus there purely as an indication, or is it something more specific?

Cheers. :)

Far as I know it goes up with item level and impacts your power damage.

Average Damage range of the weapon you are using. Basic, non-crit hits from the weapon should range within HAMSTER - HAMSTER

Its the minimum and maximum damage your weapon does per hit. Skill modify this damage value.

My assumption is that all power damage is a modification of your weapon damage. I guess it'd be an easy test (remove your weapon and check tooltips).

I wish the math in this game was more transparent. It's really hard to make an informed decision with so little information.
