Well it seems it's not actually the drivers after all. There's something wrong with the game I suspect altho the previous drivers made my gaming experience last longer (2 hours instead of 15 minutes) I got a rather odd error next.
Fatal Error: There is not enough video memory while creating texture (D3DERR_OUTOFMEMORY)
Technical Details: While creating 2D texture size 3072x2048 (RTEX_NVIDIA_INTZ)
A lot of people were getting that first error last BW, myself included. In the options menu, under Video -> Troubleshooting, you can allocate how much virtual memory your sysem allocates. I increased mine to the maximum allowable, and that seemed to solve my crashing problems. Not saying it was the reason, but after I made that change, I did not experience any more crashes.

That might be it then See in their other games that's not an option STO didn't have that I don't think or if it did I've never had to use that for three years 2 operating systems three computers and 2 graphics cards.
Well I tried setting the graphics to both 1024 (i think that's it) the maximum size memory space, and it crashed again altho this time it took a while longer then 15minutes after todays patch.
I then set it while in game to automatic so that it would decide the filesize it needed and would make the adjustments itself. The game crashed again however this time it took it three hours.
Every time it crashes tho I'm in PE every time so there's something wrong with one of the many textures being used in the PE area because I never have a crash in any other zone.
Yeah, the bug was waaaaay more prevalent in PE than anywhere else. Almost every time I tried to go to PE I would be crossing my fingers. I thought it was PE exclusive, but then it happened in the pirates zone (can't recall the name at the moment) once, and that ruled out exclusively PE problems. But I think you are correct, there is a particular texture that is causing it. I am confident that Cryptic will nail it down eventually - in the meantime just keep sending in the bug reports, that will help them solve it.

There is a problem with Protector's Enclave. I'm not a PC savvy person, but somebody more knowledgeable than me said it was something called a 'memory leak'. It's a problem with the game itself and not your PC.
I've managed to improve things by lowering some of my graphic settings and turning off the auto patcher in the launcher (this last step really helped).
Also, I try very hard not to go anywhere near PE at peak times (this might not be possible for you though. I live in Australia, so I have a bit of an advantage here ).
OK I tried now one CPU core option (Troubleshooting->Multicore Rendering: off). So far so good, although too soon too say. Unfortunately game runs very slow for me in such mode. So I turned off different features and will observe and report. If you have some frequent problems - worth to try and let us know.
This one option has some potential, depending how the game is coded. And yes, it is probably not about one particular texture, but about memory leak. It is quite obvious because when I log into fresh game I can usually do anything I want in PE. But after some gaming in different instances, coming back to PE is risky and often ends in a crash. My guess is that there is some bug in a library which not necessarily is written by game developers themselves. And as such - hard to find and fix.
PS. You can also type in chat:
/fpsgraph 1
To see how the game behaves. Violet lines are lag spikes.
To turn it off type:
/fpsgraph 0
EDIT: Game become unresponsive. I prefer to play with max quality and smooth gameplay and crash sometimes instead - even if 1 core solution would work. Which is uncertain.

Why would it give me an error for nvidia cards?
Thanks!
