Speculation and hopes for Archer Ranger

I saw a thread earlier as to the viability of Archer Rangers. i don't see how it would be very different from the way they did the CW but this isnt about that. i just hink it would be fun to gspeculate on the attacks/mechanics they will get.they way i see Archer Ranger working is a lot like the way i see PnP rangers playing mixed with the MMO mechanics
i see their attacks as being what feats would let them do.

(I play 3.5 still & this game is based off 4.0 so i hope this doesn't cause too much confusion)

Tab ability
-Far Shot
range increment increases by one-half (multiply by 1.5)

Shift Ability
-Run
you move x times your normal speed (same as GWF)

Passive
-Distant Advantage
Gain combat advantage with ranged attacks against a flanked enemy

At-Wills
-Shot On The Run [Basic attack]
When using the attack action with a ranged weapon, you can move while attacking(maybe reduce speed by 5-10%)

-Rapid Shot
shoot several arrows quickly with increasing damage per shot (rouges Cloud of Steel)

Encounters
-Manyshot
fire two arrows at a single opponent.
For every point add one additional arrow to this attack, to a maximum of four arrows

-Point Blank Shot
You get a bonus on damage at ranges of up to 30 feet

-Pinning Shot
Opponent cannot move for 1/1.5/2 seconds (i can see this one calling for a nerf though lol)

Daily
-Rain of arrows
Rain arrows on target area

Thats all i can think of for now maybe i'll update this more when i think of other stuff.

Roll a dice if class 6 is the warlock or the ranger:
There are five classes at launch. Are there any other classes you're working on that you're not prepared to discuss yet?

We've already started work on classes six and seven. In fact, class six was really close to making it for the launch of the game.

One of the things we're trying to do with Neverwinter is to ensure that we don't just put out tons of stuff but put we put out things of high quality. It wasn't that class six wasn't good -- it's actually many of the developers' favorite right now -- but we wanted more time to focus on the launch and make it awesome. We figured that if the classes we released were really good, people would stick around to see what comes later, as opposed to if we put out a bunch of classes that are whatever, then nobody will care when we say that class 10 is coming next month.

Still say Crytpic would do wise to get the Ranger up and running as fast as possible. Alot of people are die-hard Ranger/Archer style types.

in which video do they say that? first ting i hear that...well ranger could also be a combination of dualwield and archer, with the paragon path defining which route you go

Huh, I can't find the mod post I saw it on but a month back the evidence was scourge lock and archer ranger. However, to get back to the OP, I like most of what you have there except I think the shift ability should be a hop back. Same as a dodge/tele, but only goes back and is on the same 3/stam bar as CW. Also I think instead of archer they should just do "Ranger" and have the tab ability be switching from a ranged weapon to a melee weapon with some kind of 5s or so CD. The idea being that all the abilities have an alternate use based on whether you are melee or ranged. Balanced around the premise that some will be specifically good in melee and some at range. Then the paragon trees could be a survival tree, archer tree, and melee tree. That's just my two cents though.

I would love to see an Archer Ranger with some of the same mechanics that Trick Arrow had in City of Heroes. Very controllery/debuffery. Obviously the at-wills need to do damage, but I'd love to see any combo of Trick Arrow-like powers.

Entangling Arrow: Ranged, Foe Immobilize, -Recharge, -SPD, -Fly
Flash Arrow: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -To-Hit, -Perception
Glue Arrow: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe -Recharge, -SPD, -Fly
Ice Arrow: Ranged, Foe Hold, -Recharge, -SPD
Poison Gas Arrow: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Sleep, -DMG
Acid Arrow: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DoT(Toxic), Foe -DEF(All), -Res(All)
Disruption Arrow: Ranged (Location AoE), Foe -Res(All)
Oil Slick Arrow: Ranged (Location AoE), Foe Knockdown, -SPD, -Jump, -DEF(All), Special(Moderate DoT(Fire) when ignited)
EMP Arrow: Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Hold, -Regen, -Recovery, -End, Special vs. Robots, Self -Recovery

Especially Oil Slick Arrow. Oh please, oh please can we have Oil Slick Arrow?

Sorry the Devs had said they are working on both Archer and Tempest (duel wield) Rangers. Mye expectation is that the tempest will arrive first as they said that they are having trouble with the feel of the archer ranger.

Oh, and as far as I'm aware, the debate on the Archer Ranger vs. Melee Ranger is: Someone a community moderator knows and trusts very well thought he saw firm evidence that the ranger is melee class, and so was telling everyone that. But then said person had a hard time finding that post/video/whatever, so isn't sure anymore. There just seems to be a lot of confusion on some items, even within Cryptic. For example, the GMs were saying that XP-earning was increased during Beta Weekends over what was intended for official launch, but Jack Emmert said that XP was going to stay the same at launch.

Having worked in a corporate setting for many years, I'm familiar with the "right hand doesn't know what left hand is doing" situation all too well. Big companies have a lot of moving parts, and communication isn't always broad or detailed enough.

I really, really hope they release an Archer class. If it's pure damage I'll still play it, but I'll be far happier if it also contains debuff and/or control.

The devs are TRYING to get a ranger class to be available shortly after launch but it's melee based. I have not seen any public dev comment on warlock or archer.

found it was a post by iamtruthseeker
Now, get back on topic what abilities/mechanics would you like to see for an Archer Ranger?

I'm hoping the ranger is the melee ranger, so I can roll up my oldest ADnD character. A human as well. Though I have seen a few different dual wield skills used by mobs in game.

In my gut though, I'm going to guess that class number 6 will be the Warlock.
