Gold spammers and Local Chat

I hope Cryptic Studios has some systems in place or plans to deal with the gold spammers flooding the local chat channels. I know we haven't seen this problem yet. But anyone who has played free to play games knows they will be there in force and flooding the local chat with their spam. This problem is so severe in some games that it's virtually impossible to have a conversation or ask questions in the local chat. Anyone have any ideas or ways to deal with this coming onslaught?

Wait, how does this work in a game where you can already buy the most important currencies (Zen and Astral Diamonds) with money?

I don't expect gold spammers in this game at all.

1. Gold is a very restricted NPC only currency.
2. There are only a few things worth buying with gold and you'll have more gold than you'll spend.
3. There's a report spam function in game. If someone gets enough spam reports, they will receive a nice account-wide 24 hour chat ban in all Cryptic games.

You need refined ADs for basically everything. Trading between players (including the AH), buying mounts and ID scrolls, respeccing your feats, exchanging it to zen, changing your armor's appearance etc. And you can't get AD with botting.

I know what you mean, Raiderz you can forget even typing in chat, so many spammers. But I dont forsee this in NWO.

I don't see it happening, as from what I seen so far. The two main currencies Zen & AD are not tradeable between accounts, the only way to trade them is via the Zen->Diamond exchange. Well I guess they could sell items for real world money but that about it.

Yep, the botters and chat spammers are so bad in RaiderZ, they were there in closed beta. I uninstalled shortly after launch because they never did anything about em. About a year later, that place is still crawling with em.

But, STO on the other hand doesn't have any spammers or bots. So apparently this is just a problem with PWE not giving a <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> about RaiderZ, not really a problem that inherently plagues all F2P games.

Ive noticed all mmo games have gold spammers even P2P games the best and sometimes only way is just report then ignore. It sucks.

Maybe when the game is launched we can start a forum page to list all the spammers people see and we can petition to ban them.

They just make new accounts if they get banned, so having a forum page just for that is pointless. However I doubt this will be a major problem in NW (at least not as big as other mmos like wow), mostly because AD is really hard to move between accounts (Beside the ZEN > AD market, I can only see the AH as a viable way to move AD between accounts) and hard to farm, it's much easier farming lets say gold in wow.

I bet will will see advertisements to some extent, mostly gift cards and maybe some AD selling, though I don't think it will be as large scale as in other mmos, simply because it's so much easier to just buy ZEN than going through the hassel of using the AH, in the end, most players will use that system, it's safer aswell.

Look for lvl 1 gear on sale for 1mil AD in the AH real soon. . .

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about since this same sort of system is used in Star Trek Online with Dilithium in the place of astral diamonds.

There is no means to trade astral diamonds. You can not walk over to such and such and say here. Take 50,000 dilithium. Nor can you trade zen in game. So, if you spend cash. There is only one way. With the Astral Diamond market for zen. You only buy zen through perfect world's options.

As for the price of items. Just because they go up for 1 million AD for a level 1 item. Does not mean it will sell. Supply and demand should be how you price items. If you only get about 800 astral diamonds an hour. Then no one will seriously buy an item for level one at that 1 million astral diamonds cost unless they are Bill Gates and can afford spending that much money on something they won't keep long.

This would probably get you in just as much trouble as the gold spammers. I don't believe naming/shaming is allowed. Best to report in game and leave it at that.

Gold spammers exist in every game, including free games. They last as long as they make profit. If people buy gold from hem, they will continue. It's their business model. Hopefully no one would be crazy (read: dumb) enough to buy from a gold farmer, and they will lose interest cuz of lack of profit.

another way to get rid of spammers is to have a system that searches repeat commands, ( like if u type same thing so many times) or if you repeat the say mouse motions specifically you have to type in that stupid wetu0jg] message. If this is done right it will at least get rid of bot spamming seriously who in their right mind wants to sit their spamming most of them most likely use bots. obv it would have to be a spesifc system which doesn't effect standard players.

In all three of Cryptic's games, there's a feature inherently integrated into the chat system. If you right click a name in the chat window, options come up. Near the bottom, there's two options: Ignore and Report Spam. Ignore gives a person a demerit and silences them for you. Report Spam gives them a demerit also and silences them for you as well.

Both features save these demerits and if a player acquires enough, they are silenced for 24 hours. The Report Spam function requires less demerits for this to happen than the Ignore function, currently.

This is the ONLY system Cryptic has in place for dealing with "gold farmers", and it's "working as intended" despite multiple complaints spanning at least two years of abuse of this system in their other two games, Star Trek Online and Champions Online.

I fully expect nothing less than the same abuse of the system to occur in this game, too.

The person was stating that gold farmers use trash items to move currency from account to account. Aion has vendors in the **** area selling grey items for 100k guess who bought them, the gold farming accounts.

the only true way to move AD is for them to open a Foundry quest and take donations.

Yea the problem wont be the gold spammers. Its going to be normal players silenced by trolls abusing the automated system. But at least it will be quiet.

Trying to make sure I understand the current system.

1.) We can buy ZEN with real life money.

2.) We can acquire Astral Diamonds by exchanging with ZEN

3.) Astral Diamonds is the Auction House currency(another way to sell AD/acquire AD).

4.) Gold is used for Mounts and I'm sure some smaller items.

So in conclusion the only thing a Gold Seller will barter with is Gold and unless Cryptic adds a 200g Mount then GolderSellers won't have much to work with in Neverwinter Online. Unless they want to to overprice the Auction House and make a surplus of AD then setup a system to get the player ZEN cheaper then it costs to buy from Perfect World..

Gold Selling may not be a big thing here, because anything AD related can be purchased legitimately, so people trying to be shady are also missing some screws here.

I can see a market for selling items though. I've seen some sites that sell gold/leveling services/items for sale. I haven't read anything about the trading in Neverwinter, so I don't know if there are restrictions. I know that some people would pay $5 for a piece of gear to be traded to them then to run the dungeon.

So, gold may not be the big thing, but there are plenty of other ways for these black market companies to profit.

Very true. Sellers could sell Rare/Exotic endgame Weapons. Rare Mounts. Rare Companions. Maybe $10 for entire lv10 Armor, ect.. And ofc the oh so famous Powerleveling.

Spammers are nearly nonexistent in STO these days, despite 2 million players, and when they do show up they get silenced in moments. Cryptic's systems work pretty well.

Oddly enough someone wanting to pay 5$ for any item can just spend 5$ for Zen then convert it to AD then buy it off the AH.
