I was thinking about the combat mechanics of Neverwinter in a rather broad sense and comparing it to League of Legends, which has very similar controls. In my musings I came to compare the GWF to Garen the Might of Demacia, and the possibilities incumbent to such a parallel intrigue me.**
In League of Legends, Garen is extremely powerful for his ease of use, inherent tankiness, and mobility through being able to resist and break CC with abilities that don't have a limited resource (mana). The combination of these traits allows him to get in and out of combat on his own terms, and when skillfully used he can always enforce his own tactics into the combat.
The GWF could very well play like this, if one can find the proper feats and at-will/encounter/daily powers. In PvP especially having CC breaks and resistances -- perhaps through shouts and gap closing abilities -- would allow the GWF to get into the best positions to take advantage of his AoE damage, and survive long enough to retreat back to his allies after bursting down a Wizard or Cleric or softening up a group of enemies.
I lack much experience with the GWF and don't know their abilities, but I'm curious what those of you who do think of my theory.
**I looked up the word "incumbent" but am still not 100% certain I'm using it right. If anyone knows please inform me.
