OK so being a big fan of DnD and 4e rules, i was really excited to get a beta key to play this game, so i thought i'd share my views on the game. Please don't turn this into a flame war, these are just my views and not intending to cause arguments.

I must say to me graphics aren't an issue for me, it's all about game-play although they were a bit out dated compared to most MMO's but with that being said, the game flows smoothly when in combat and i really feel like I'm hitting someone and not just poking them with a stick.

Character customization, to me this was sub par, not bad, but it not so good either. For DnD i was expecting loads of customization as this is the main part of any DnD game, laying out your character and making them stand out in the world, but at the same time you have to think DnD is played on paper and in your minds where anything is possible and endless, and trying to get that and stick it into any game is a lot of work.

Open World, now i read some where on this forum, that people reckon this game should of had an open world and not just dungeons / instances. Yes and no on this in my eyes. If done right and the world doesn't feel copied and pasted everywhere then yes it could work, as you could build up your own adventure right your own stories. But for me DnD is all about encounters, when you play a campaign, its mainly done in one specific area and this is what they have tried to take from PnP DnD. Every time i accept a quest its a new encounter and I'm making the back story of my character and his adventures as i go along in his biography.

One big fail for this game i will say is OMFG the chat channels. Please Cryptic if your reading this get it sorted because as soon as I'm in the towns trying to talk to a friend is ridiculous, i shouldn't have to scroll through thousands of text before seeing what my friend wrote, and getting to level 15 before i can whisper is just wrong in any MMO, this should of been a priority, its MMO 101 guys.

I'll be playing this game when it launches for sure and my overall rating out of 10 so far is 7/10. Good game but please sort out the chat system, and although graphics don't matter to me they are dated. But I've never had so much fun questing and slicing through waves of enemies.

I agree, it should actually be the opposite, you should not be able to globally chat until level 15 outside of a sort of newbie channel. The chat system is a bit wonky as well, The zone chat is ok, but I would really like a global chat of some form.

I honestly do not mind the instancing, in an open world you tend to end up with really generic quests and story. I have yet to see a game do it right, guild wars did a personal story and an open world, but they felt disjointed and the open world felt repetitive and boring really quickly.

With the heavy instancing they do it is possible to do a bit more story based game. I do have to say the second or third play through is really quite boring at the beginning so they might need to work on that a bit.

The chat features are actally highly customizable. You can set up your own *and* modify the existing ones. Click the gear icon on the top left of the chat box and set it to your preferences.

Zone chat is being overused to no end right now. That may change after launch but it *can* be turned off and/or thrown into a separate chat box.

Global hats in an MMO are an all around bad idea though. If zone chat is annoying Global would...ugh. I don't even want to think of it.
However you can set up chat rooms for friends and Rp groups, etc. No need to hunt down text if you adjust the chat settings to what would most benefit you :D

    *snip*

Ya I saw this after some sleuthing. It has so much customization, it would be nice if a user could make guild chat templates, save them, and distribute them to the rest of the guild....maybe there is a way to do just that in some xml file or something in the client file?
