I'm not big into the entire kickstarter thing, but I dropped $20 on this one without a second thought. I'm seriously considering upgrading to the $75 tier, actually...
edit: did you know there was a novelization of the game? See here
I backed this for more than my pledges for the other five games I've backed on Kickstarter combined. This is the game I've been waiting and asking for someone to make for the last 13 years.
Even if it's only half as good as Planescape: Torment was, it'll still be twice as good as every other RPG that's come out since PS:T.
It reached its $900,000 funding goal in SIX HOURS. That's a crazy record right there.

No kidding. Are they going to get Avellone on board as one of the stretch goals? Though with him working on Project Eternity, that may not be an option...
Dark Sun was amazing. I still own every Box Set, Manual, Novel, and every Dark Sun card for the old Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Trading Cards. I can also add the CRPGs and the ill fated MMORPGs source code.
I have always been a fan of the Apocalyptic Dystopian settings, future or past.
Dark Sun was great because the world was so unlike a typical fantasy setting and yet so similar.
And Pardon my Thri-Kreen Avatar. I preferred when they still had abdomens. I guess Wizards of the Coast thought that an insectoid race should look like every other bi-pedal race. Excluding the extra arms.
Also, they like to allow old races to be something they never were before, like a bow-wielding Ranger Thri-Kreen. But that is a story for another day. Good hunting!
The original Thri-Kreen were definitely better, no doubt.

SSI did make two Dark Sun games (Shattered Lands, Wake of the Ravager) back in 1992-ish... in many ways, they were the predecessors of Baldur's Gate (except they were even better because they actually had turn-based combat! ha!). I liked those games quite a bit, though the second one got kind of silly with the power creep.
Ontopic, it's pretty neat to see how the funding gets closer to the 3mil mark, and still seems to be going strong. Avellone at $3.5m was kind of expected, but still cool (and if that level isn't reached, I'll eat my hat)! I wonder if the kickstarter will hit 5mil+ by the end?

Want to read something else really cool? Check out the original Vision Document for Torment:

I wish we'd see more game designers coming up with ideas like this!

looks like they will need more stretch goals on kickstarter!
Raise those pledges, people!
Planescape was my one of my favorite settings because of the depth and intertwining of faith, philosophy, and otherworldliness.
If only a real "Dark Sun" CRPG were being created as well. Any takers out there?
