How many character slots does a basic account have? I know the Founder's packs give you more but how many do you normally get?

I have 3 with the founder account, and since founder pack gives you an extra one, I am assuming you get 2 with a normal account?

TWO? A whole TWO? That's pretty lame. Why only two?
But I guess you can buy more with real money once the game launches? Other than the 2 founder packs?
How much will they cost is something I'm sure people, besides me, are wondering?
    :)

In the zen store I think character slots was like 600 zen.

    I have 6 character slots. :P
    I have both packs.

I've got five with the Hero of the North one.

And not like the character slots are expensive or anything. Besides they need to make money somewhere in the long run. It doesn't have a box nor sub fee. Rather see them charge for character slots than questionable amounts for other mounts and cosmetics PWE always.. does.. Wait, they did this as well. *throws hands in the air and says "F this" and backs away*

Aherm. Not really on the backing away. But you get the idea. :P

EDIT: Not to mention, there's never been an MMO where I've had the time and resources to actually PLAY more than two characters at end-game.

Starting with two seems fair for a free-to-play game, especially considering all content is open to free-ites. I did the guardian pack but really expect to play two characters at most but this will give me the freedom to try a class I would normally not play.

You know if you buy both packs you should get the title "Guardian of Neverwinter, Hero of The North."

This is a pretty boneheaded idea by the creators, I'll admit. The second I saw 2 slots only, I wanted to slap someone and have a Nerd "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!" moment right in their face. It's a stupid move, one that'll probably end up costing them, as several dissatisfied customers end up either grinding Diamonds for Zen, or shrug and move to greener pastures. They won't even have a "tier" plan to thank users for buying cash shop money, IE, much like what DCUO and DDO have, where just by paying some money to them, you get extra character slots, a special place in the queue, among other things.

I want to say it's just a thing by PWE... but if you've played Champions Online (another game I quit), you only get 2 slots there, too. Same with STO. Being a person afflicted with Alt-itis, I'm pretty heavily affected by this. Then again, I'm use to companies throwing you a bone for throwing them some money. This has led me to sticking to Buy to Play games... like Guild Wars 2. There's an option to trade Astral Diamonds for Zen, which can then buy services (why the hell aren't services worth diamonds?), and you can only sell on the AH for Diamonds. Better yet, you can get free diamonds every hour, just by praying.

It feels like a pretty goofy system, but they tried to stay within You Can Have Everything Even F2P. I can respect that. I just wish it wasn't so... moneytastic. I do realize they have a bottom line, and apparently they don't think skins, clothing, etc are worth enough on their own. Personally, I wish they'd look at Path of Exile for a Truly Free way to run their game.

Yeah, two is plenty. I'll have five, but figure I'll save the remaining three for future races/classes that will inevitably be introduced over time. I figure I'll focus on one character at least through level 30 or 40 before I begin my next alt. And $6 a slot is a screaming deal it you want to roll new alts.

To encourage you to buy more of course. :)

That's the price you pay for a F2P that everyone said couldn't have any competitive advantage to paying. You wind up having to pay for the conveniences, such as, having more than 2 active characters.

I believe I saw extra character slots at 1000 zen? Or was it 1500 zen? Anyone remember?

Thank you, in other words 2 character slots are cheaper than a dye pack.

Character slots, like others have mentioned, cost 500 ZEN for two. That, I feel, is a fair, even inexpensive purchase, amounting to $5 USD. Given that at launch there will be only five classes, few people will need more than 5 character slots. So, for 1,000 ZEN you could buy four additional character slots and be set for a while.

You can also acquire Astral Diamonds in-game and trade them for ZEN.

I think 500 zen for 2 is a very reasonable rate and something most people would be willing to spend money on if you are an alt-a-holic. With the planned release of more classes it encourages slot purchases in the long run. Even I can afford 500 zen, and I'm broke.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

I didn't buy a Founder's pack, but do not mind paying for extra character slots as long as they are reasonabley priced. $5 for two seems reasonable to me. They need to make money somehow, and I rather pay for things like this than to be locked out of content

Ppl just complain too much ... They have to make money somehow ... and I really hope they keep doing things like that intead of doing like other MMOs where ppl that spend alot of money get overpowered ingame. Character slots does not interfere ingame and that is great.

Like ppl said, want more slots, just make another account, its FREE!!!
