Will there be any? Whether it be trophy items from quests, contests, events or maybe cosmetic items dropped from rare monsters that we hunt (that might later be displayed in some manner like a trophy room at a guild house or if player housing were to happen then maybe there)?

It would be very cool if so, don't know if they mentioned any collectibles like that, though I can't see how they wouldn't incorporate something like that.

I would also like to see some system in place for that, even if it is just looking for sparkles while adventuring like EQ2 or Rift.

Just having the option in the game makes for an added bonus for those of us who like to poke around every nook and cranny of the world.

    Can't find anything public...wait a moment...
    Contests

While instanced events are nice, and allow us to change things up in ways we couldn?t necessarily do without an instance, we wanted something that you could do along the normal progression path without needing to load into an instance. Contests allow us to introduce a competitive element to an adventure zone for a short time. Players can choose to participate in the event as it?s happening at a multitude of levels. You can choose to only participate should you happen across an objective, or actively compete throughout the duration of the event. Regardless, you?ll be rewarded according to your participation level, and rank at the end of the contest.

You may find yourself hunting down a pack of Spirit Wolves, subduing bandit spies, or even searching for lost relics in a contest event.

This suggests we MIGHT be able to get "trophies as proof" based on the contest. The again, it just may be "kill them and it flags."

But (as gruesome as it sounds) I think the idea of "body parts as trophies" such as ears or teeth necklaces for example is a part of the culture both RL warfare, and also both D&D and MMO gaming.

My home in LOTRO was decorated with collectibles that I had gathered from various adventures and quests I had been on within the game. It was a pretty nice addition to the game and one that I really enjoyed. Likewise, the guild house had a wide assortment of items that could only be obtained through some of the larger guild raids and from some event specific quests.

All in all, I enjoyed this feature in the game and look forward to seeing how it is implemented in this game.

    My Best,

I vote for ork teeth as alternative currency and... uhh... trophies.

The events developer blog that Truthseeker quoted is the closest thing we have at the moment to discussing trophy items but I truly hope to see a decent amount of them.

I really love content that can only be obtained through playing the game and is one of my favorite parts of every game I play. I also don't mind if trophy content are also more than cosmetic and maybe even considered "end game rewards."
Some people talk about grinds as a means to keep players playing while I consider trophy content a much better alternative.

I hope we will get a vast amount of trophy items, truly. It's something I consider extremely important to promote long term goals for players.

    P.S.
Personally I view Scalping and Ears are a form of currency more so than a trophy system. Certainly there are societies which did keep teeth, thumbs and other appendages as trophies but...meh...I would never have a character which did that personally.

However my uncle did use that as an excuse to name a character something a bit borderline offensive on multiple NWN1 servers. Every time a DM got on his case about his name he pulled out his bag of monster heads and justified his nomenclature. "The only reason the name is offensive to you is because you have a dirty mind."
I love my uncle. He's just too witty for his own good some times.

STO has a trophy system for the Captain's Ready Room, and I hope D&D will continue this tradition with Cryptic's interesting methods. I'm sure both trophies and bounties will be used in the game! Well, I hope so!

And rats and darn it, what is your uncle's character's name? It's gnawing at me wanting to know....

I played wizard back in the day that would pull the teeth from any monsters the group killed. Amazing how often they would came in handy or prove valuable.

Which of course had nothing to do with any use of a magic aura spell whatsoever. b:sin

It is very commendable that you would go to the trouble of picking ingredients to further your scientific studies in arcana by researching them given your weak constitution and carrying capacity...

I think it would be interesting to start a guild that is strictly a Hunter's Club. The image that comes to mind is the old British big game hunt clubs that would trek through Africa and come back and mount stuffed animals in the club house. I think it would be neat if something like that could be recreated in game in a sense :D

You can't really compare the two.
Those guys hunted with guns and it was more like a lvl 60 player in lvl 1 area. Though it was real life unlike the virtual game, still there was no real risk of even a PC getting killed.
Here heroes are fighting monsters at equal level. So at least it is a bit tough.

That play comes to my mind, Arms and the man - when Nicolai is crying about 'professionalism' in armies. :-)

    Ha. Interesting reference.

I wouldn't say that is entirely true. There is always a general risk, though there is a great undertaking to make it rather minimal/trivial. Either way that general atmosphere is what I am looking for.

    P.S.

I long to capture wild game with a tiny net.

True those issues can prove a limitation at times, though I find them easily enough overcome through simple trinkets and creative application of concepts. In fact, I find myself with a surplus of such trinkets at this very moment. Perhaps you would be interested in this small charm fashioned from the beak of an aarakocra? I've imbued it with a powerful enchantment that will allow you to float like a feather to the ground should you ever take a tumble from a great height. I'd be willing to let it go for a pittance. Guaranteed to work when you most need it!!
