I'm starting this thread because I find that a lot of games don't implement this features well enough on armor/equipment which can really make a differences I believe in beating down some mobs which in return can make it more strategical fun i guess, whether you want to fight with/without armor in order to increase your overall movement/strength to gain an upper hand in some particular way, why does it always have to be just about good loot drop % lets make it also about giving more exciting beat downs even if I have to do it naked...

I agree with what you're saying to some extent but also think you need to expand it a bit more. The point that I'm getting from this is that D&D games - and rules they use - encourage freedom in character building. More so than any other RPG I've played. If the player want's to create a charismatic gnome fighter they are well within their rights to do so. If the players wants to build for strength alone they are well within their rights to do so. OR - as the op has stated - if the players wants to run around naked to avoid armor penalties they have the right to do so.

I guess the point I'm making is the more options and tweaks we have at our disposal the more diverse and interesting our characters can be.

I for one would laugh if low charisma characters were forced to be ugly, and the devs put obvious trap responses in game choices(NPC dialogue) for low intelligence characters :D

you dumped INT did ? congratuations you have no choice but to allow the obvious supervillian to use you as a puppet while your smart wizard could have choosen to fight him then and there

or the woman captive your supposed to save runs away from you cause you ugly
ah the fun we could have
    The truth will EAT you!

If memory serves, you were stuck with "dumb" dialogue choices if you had a very low Intelligence in Planescape Torment. There were also extra options for clever/wise characters. I hope Neverwinter has something like this. Or at least makes "bad" or "unusual" choices valid choices.

Low Charisma does not means character is ugly. Charisma represents ability you are born with. It represents personality, dragon blood for sorcerers(a magical power inside them they are born with) and ability to lead. i.e. people follow a high charisma person.

A person with low charisma may be good looking but may not be attractive. He may be a good leader but others may not follow him/her. While person with high charisma can be a bad leader but others will follow and love him/her.

So a NPC will not run away from a low charisma PC, nor does that mean that low CHA is ugly.

In 4e, your armor choices affect how Dexterity or intelligence can affect your armor class. Heavier armor may not allow any dexterity modifers to your AC, where as lighter armors can take advantage of a higher dexterity. Cloth armors provide almost no protection, but allow full use of skills and dex.

Certain magical improvements on armor are only available for certain types of armor, as well. You can't make a Robe of Eyes out of Leather, for instance.
