The character models look very dated. I'm not one to do negative post, I tend to think them counter productive, however man just look at those models. Gag. That's why I hope this was a low res trailer.

I wouldn't be that concerned about that than lag. Any lag at any time in online game is much more annoying than any eye-candy. Besides, models will also depend on type of armor and clothes etc. as devs have already said (also that some rare armor can be identified by sight), which basically means that they can be updates/corrected/patched anytime.

Disagree. Have you seen the character models in DDO? These are vastly superior.

Graphic and animation is something they really need to improve on but the most interesting thing we already saw which was gameplay video.
Only thing that i liked was black hole skill at 1:08 which give me a hope that we will see a game with verry random skills not only like in many other mmo's different kolor of fireball.
Game have to be fast, it need to have game physics changing skills and it need to be all about player skill to control what you see and what you do.
Didn't realize bows were the exclusivity of rangers.
Thats why I said maybe... also it may be non-PC ranger (enemy ranger). So thats double maybe.

The animations sometimes seem to be a bit... jerky? Not sure of the correct word for it.
Quite cool the second part of the siege of Neverwinter. Funny that the rogue uses an armour similar to that of the drow rogue of this site (the upper part). Image reference for the armour.
Edit: hell, she even uses the same jewlery for the forehead.

Having played Tera and even Swtor, Tera being far superior in both combat and graphics lag can be dealt with. I bought a great laptop for $1,100.00 and even hooked up to my big screen I have everything on max. Tera hardly lags even in highly populated areas and unlike a traditional mmo lag would seriously screw with the game. In a nutshell I'm not asking for the best art but definitely was expecting a little more than this. Hell NWN 2 graphics still appeal to me. This is more in line with pre WoW. The content really will need to kick serious booty to offset it.

Keep in mind that it is an active combat game, so treat lag as you treat in fps games, say, COD:MW maps
Also, there was a discussion about lag in one of the archived thread earlier. Lags can happen due to a lot of things. e.g. bandwidth of others who party with you in a dungeon, the load on the servers themselves, the better AI of monsters etc. Trust me, even after having 10mbps all for yourself with latest computer you may unexpectedly find yourself facing lag because of issues unknown to you - and if like me, you only spend a limited time on games, it will really annoy the day/week for you.

Sorry Gilrmn I was mainly refering to art and lag. If they were compensating the art for a better MMO especially where AI and great content is concerned them I'm all for it. However even then it is substandard.
well...i enjoyed this last video...graphically it s alright... however after watching it more carefully i found quiet a few imperfection...
Characters standing above the ground at 0:26 and even more obvious at 0:30 and 1:00
Texture clipping through the floor at 0:36
not impressed at all...there s obviously room for improvement.
I know it s going to be Free to play...so at least my expectation can t be very high.
oh and btw, for people looking forward to additional classes. You can expect warrior, mage, clerc and thief at the beginning anything else will be available at a price. They need to make some money a way or another.

I'd definitely pay for a ranger class but if the room for improvements isn't filled by full release, I'd probably just stay with GW2 and RaiderZ. I still have high hopes for NW since it's still in the pre-alpha stages, but Cryptic's gotta work even if it means another delay.
Where are you folks getting the models are bad or animation jerky? They aren't pushing the Next Gen ridiculous eye candy (also ridiculous waste of effort - see rant below) envelope, granted. But looks fine to me.
*Rant Warning*
Not every game needs to look like Watch Dogs in graphical quality. In fact it is not in favor for an MMO to be graphics intensive by the shear amount of time it takes to produce that sort of content and the balance of making your game available to more people. If only top end rigs can run a game then on people shelling out for top end rigs will play it ( and then how many people in the top rig category will continue to pump cash into a game over time vs wanting to buy into an experience all at once?). And in MMO's player base count is a key factor in the game longevity and profit.

^^ Seconded ^^
I for one enjoy the look of the graphics. As Vangald said, it's not bleeding edge graphics, and doesn't need to be, but also it doesn't look like every other game out there either. Or is that what people want? I don't want it to look like WoW, or DDO, or "insert your game here". And I don't run a top end rig either, so I do want it to run on my computer.
And so the video has a bit of jittering to it. It's pre-beta. I'm just glad they are sharing already. And what they are sharing looks like serious fun!

Graphics are not important at all in a MMO for its long term survival, the market is full of MMOs who are still allive and kicking with out-dated graphics.
Enjoyability AND amount of content are the prime factors.
As for the video, I wouldn't really call this "game-play", seeing in-game footage of characters and monsters swinging swords and casting spells does not constitute game-play for me.
Gameplay was what shown by the developer at Pax-East, the actual play with the character, the interface, the interaction with the enemies, the items, the numbers, ecc...

I wasn't criticizing your opinion or anything, just saying that lag can be due to variety of reasons. Comparing to CO, I am quite hopeful that it would have good art. The one in gameplay video may be as they said before - has something to do with the lag in the in-built tool which records video on server.
I always felt that some of character models were a bit too bulky. One thing though that really gets on my nerves is the in place stance bobbing, to me it's way to high tempo-ed bouncing up and down and just gets on my nerves. One other gripe is the movement, of the footage of charges it just looks bad imo, the movement, animation is just not very well done. Can't quite place it but it feels like slow motion and how the greatsword wielder does a jumping downward strike but pauses briefly in mid air that is giving it a Matrix effect.
Of more positive notes though I do really enjoy the armor art work and the environment looks very nicely done. Onething that did really catch my eye are what appears to be knockbacks. One instance is the Tiefling getting bashed by an ogre or bugbug or something big at one instant then appears to be thrown back. The other instance is the fight with the wolfish archers how one of the archers was thrown off the ledge either by the Tiefling mage type it seems like or by the one that warped in it's spot at the same time that when the knockback happens.
But these are all eye candy stuff, CGs are that purely and so are all scripted demos. It's funny how people complain about GW2 gameplay because they were expecting it to play like in the scripted demo/clips showing off abilities.
Waiting patiently for some real demo vids though and hopefully a revealing of a 5th class.
I agree with many sentiments here. I thought this video was excellently done.
As for modeling or collision complaints.. the game hasnt even entered closed beta phase. There's a long way to go. I expect it to look great and the graphics and entire engine in fact to look and feel "fresher" than DDOs.
The only part I wish would go away is the starburst splash animations after every swing. Thats going to be annoying... and we will hopefully be able to tune it down or off in the UI... as earlier suggested.
Didn't realize bows were the exclusivity of rangers.
They are the ones with enough dexterity to do it close up in front of your eyes unlike rogue builds who snipe from shadows or seekers who use spirirts with arrows. And fighters are more iconic with crossbows to use their strengths with it.
It's a good-looking trailer - I just hope that Cryptic doesn't come on these forums in three years time when (for the purposes of this comment) the game ends up looking nothing like that and says that PWE forced them to make that trailer, like the STO Klingon trailer.
