Starlight Parcel confusion

callumf#9018 callumf Member Posts: 1,710 Arc User
Some people are hoarding their Starlight Parcels until they have opened 20 Gifts of Simril thinking its the opening of the Gifts of Simril which increases the value of the rewards from the Starlight Parcel.

The Starlight Parcel actually uses the word "gifts" which is confusing people.

OR am I wrong and the Starlight Parcel rewards do get better if you have opened 20 Gifts of Simril?

Theres a fair amount of confusion out there - clarification please :0

Gifts of Simril can drop diffrent pack (can't remember the name, but it's in the tooltip) which counts towards number on Starlight Parcel. Upon opening 20 of those packs you can freely open Starlight Parcels as it can/will give the best rewards. The only diffrence between those two packs is that items from Starlight Parcel are not bound.

Starlight Bags (from gift parties) and Starlight Parcels (from zen shop) have the same counter. Rewards are at the highest tier once the counter is at or above 20. The strategy is to save Parcels (zen store, unbound loot) until after you've opened 20 Bags (gift party, bound loot) so that the parcels will be at the highest tier of rewards before you open them.

Thank you - but opening the Gifts of Simril per se will not make any difference to the Starlight Parcel counter will they?

Nope. Only Starlight Bags or Parcels.

Also, technically, you don't open the Gifts of Simril. You give/use them.

Is it 20 per character, or account wide?

Character. I advise leaving one of the presents ( not open it ) in your inventory. So you can see the counter on it. It tells you how many parcels / bags, you opened. With yellow numbers.

Pretty sure you can look at the one in the zen market to the same effect.

The tool tip on the Parcels do say "each gift opened unlocks better rewards" and given the lanterns are called "Gifts of Simril" I can understand why a new player would get confused.

Some better wording could be used.

The best thing to do is collect your daily Parcel and telescope star every day through the end of the first 2weeks on all your chars. Once you reach 5-10 stars turn then into Gift thru the vendor.

Then find a party of 4 (5 with you) and do a gift party. I recommend a guild / alliance party to avoid any scams. You each then release your 5-10 gifts and the other 4 receive goodies. Stars / Bags / Etc. You will want to collect 20 Bags. you don't need to open these bags. You wait till Zenith to open them (the 3rd week of this event) and rewards are better.

You want 20bags on each of your chars so if you have 20 on one but not another. You open your gifts on that char in party, but when you are receiving you switch to that alt that doesn't have 20 bags to get that number up. It shouldn't be hard to get to 20 bags just takes time.

One thing to note to.. When you open a Bag or a Parcel you will get another Gift per. So it could be an endless loop, I've gifted for hours last year and it just never stopped.. I ended up bringing 500+Gifts to this years event.

If at the end of the event you haven't opened 20bags, it's up to you, but I recommend putting the parcels (and bags / gifts) in your bank and wait till next year. Mind you if you have opened 19bags.. If you start opening parcels, it'll put you over the 20. so is really up to you..

    so in summary.

    Stars make Gifts
Gifts drop Stars and Bags (among other things)
Bags drop Gifts and Stars (I haven't opened any this year so stars may not drop)
Parsels drop Gifts too and other things. but don't open them till you have opened 20bags (read tooltip to see #)
Don't open Parsels till Zenith. If you can wait, open the bags during this time too.
  • what are the purple rewards in the starlight parcel? i mean these:
    seasonal event rewards
    sought-after seasonal event rewards
    call-to-arms rewards
    highly-sought-after seasonal event rewards

and what are zen market consumables?

One of the reasons why I have not opened any parcels for years. How many unbound version of the above do I want to get? I just don't want to spend hours to gift, fill up and clean up my inventory and in the end of the day, I have another N copies of the above to hoard. I am waiting for the big reward change so that I can open my hundred parcels in one Christmas in the future. Oh well!

Thats one of the "joys" of being a veteran player. First time round each event is a blast, after that, meh.

When I say "a blast" I mean some vents are fun first time round, I skipped Winter Fest last year, but this year actually lookign forward to opening some Parcels :)
