Mod 18 bugs - Auction House

sandukutupusandukutupu Member Posts: 2,285 Arc User

I hate to sound like a Wendy whiner... but this isn't even an original bug.

We have all seen this bug / glitch occur when you drop new modules. By now you would think, "Hey! I remember what caused that the last time it happened. I will go fix it right away.". I guess your priorities are different, but I tend to think you would go get the simple fixes out of the way, so you can tackle the headaches of the unknown. I am a simplistic person, but I understand priority. Top priority is stuff that just can't wait, I am assuming you got all those people back online who could not login? That is definitely a top priority. Then once all the fires are put out, it is prime time to do damage control and hit up things (like this bug) that annoy the heck out of us. Thank you for your support and attention.

I've always assumed it had to do with the amount of people trying to post at the same time. server bottleneck that naturally resolves as ppl go erm bored. and drop off.

I would agree with you, but as you may know the population has decreased here not increased. This bug shows up from time to time especially after a big change such as a module. Also people are still talking about inventory errors in game chat. Either they are too lazy to post it here or they think it will repair itself. I think plasticbat said this was a "table locking error". I doubt it has anything to do with traffic and more to do with a primordial game engine and database busting at the seams. Point is they have fixed this in the past and this time is taking much longer. It is just another annoying bug, that you have to work around until they get it fixed. Reoccurrence of such bugs should be well documented and solutions should be much quicker when they reappear.

it's definitely some kind of bug but i think it still resolves more or less on it's own. I don't think they've ever applied a fix for it.

Another reoccurring bug glitch today I think I can hear the Helmite Paladin Ghost in the Seven Suns near the Armor Merchant. The lines "I am ready.", "I will protect you.", and "It is my duty." are looping over and over. Liar's Masquerade Trick or Treat ghost are fading in and out in PE. I keep seeing momentary flashes in the skys of Barovia almost like sheet lightning. Module 18 is a hot mess of little picky bugs and glitches. They don't stop me from playing the game but they are not fun. I don't know how often you play on PC, but they need to figure this out before it hits Xbox and Playstation. I don't know what is happening. My husband's theory is they keep adding more and more items into a overtly complicated database. He said, it is like overclocking your computer, it is not meant to work at that level, and something is going to break.

Time to get the wrenches and sockets out Mr. Foss and work on that old Harley.

My comment/opinion/speculation was "lock busy issue". I also said that could not be solved completely even if they improve the hardware and/or change logic. It can be eased but it cannot be solved completely. If it is busy, it is busy. How to make it not busy, makes it runs faster. However, if the incoming increase dramatically and overcome the 'faster', it will be lock busy again. And the "lock" I referred to is specific for AH and should have no relationship with other area of the game.

If there are 100 cans but only 10 covers, some cans will not have a cover in time.
Even after you can somehow make that 10 covers run faster, if there are 1000 cans now, the problem comes back.

And the population actually shot up after this new mod landed based on how many instances in the new area and most of them were actually filled up to max. There are a lot of people when I played. I have not seen that many for a long time.

@plasticbat I was basing the population on the low chat volume in PE, lack of population in areas with Sybella's repeatable quest, and other zones normally highly populated with characters under level 80. Avernus (yes I played a little) is best suited for item level 25K or higher unless you are in a group that can protect each other. Which is a refreshing change of pace for this game. I guess I will have to pop over there later and do a census. <3

The database could be broken, we don't know, because we don't work at Cryptic Studios. A lot of tiny bugs appeared after mod 18, the worst bug, by far was, the players who could not even get online for more than a week. I am glad that wasn't an issue with mine. I still cannot stay logged into the chat server between characters. It worked before mod 18, and since I made no changes... who is to blame? In order for a character to chat or send mail, I have to Esc - Logout - Login - Select Character. Once I drop back to character selection again, chat is gone and I cannot send mail.

    Have fun!

The zone chat in the new area is non stop with:

    pls invite ape
    pls invite siege
    +ape
    +siege
    ape 24
    siege 16
    siege 25 10 minute

If I post a message asking: does anyone want to do small HE?
that message will be scrolled away in 5 seconds.

All my 6 characters are now in the new area are about 21K. I only do solo for solo content.

They also appear in the right corner (when leaving) of the exterior of the Workshop, and in the sewer entrance next to the Raving Madman ( that dispences the Xvim belts).

I have noticed the AH posting bug is really bad if I try to post when I know my internal network has "quality problems" as reported by the xbox stream app on my laptop or the xbox that is hardwired at 50+ feet from internet router. If I move to the xbox that is within 10 feet of internet router I have fewer issues. Granted it still pops from time to time, so it still needs fixing...

@wintersmoke I thought the specters would leave with the close of the event, but they didn't. I can hear the same audio at every location a Liar's Masquerade NPC is fading in and out in rapid succession. I have all my people parked in PE for the start of tomorrows weeklies, but I don't care to be in the zone with all these bugs. I just need to be there long enough to take Defending the Portal and Sybella's Quests. The rest of my time I spend in Port Nyanzaru or Yawning Portal... I only wish the vendor were more quiet, "He better pipe down, before he gets shut up!".

    Have fun!
