Is anyone aware of any NPC that not only takes your action points but gold as well?

I was in Sharandar this afternoon doing quests and suddenly my action points were gone and I noted that I was also missing gold. Anyone know how this could have happened?

Do you have any gloves equipped that mention a 'financial cost' in the description?

One of the Redcap mobs does an AP drain. They'll make a stance where they're holding their sickle back to their side behind them and you'll hear a noise and you'll see your AP display change color. This means they're starting their drain and if you do not disrupt them somehow or kill them before they finish casting, they'll suck all of your remaining AP. Alternatively, you could use your Daily when you see this happening so they don't get your AP and it is not wasted entirely.

As for the missing gold, as pitshade stated, you may be wearing a pair of financial cost gloves/gauntlets.

My gauntlets are NOT financial cost. So that doesn't apply.

May be you are running some workshop projects? That is another gold-sink.

Powries drain all AP in one attack.

The Powries' AP-drain attack should've been nerfed at least to some degree when our AP/recharge rates were drastically altered back in mod 16(?). Considering they're trash mobs, that's one very powerful attack.

So kill them first. Problem solved.

See, if I was Cryptic I would sell a utility enchantment via the Zen shop that blocks a percentage of AP drain per rank until 15 where is 100% blocked.

As you say, they are trash mobs and as such they stun and die really easy and it's super easy to spot their drain effect with plenty of time to react before they finish casting it. I've never had any problem interrupting or killing them before they drain you, unless I am not paying attention. After a few quests in Sharandar, one should be quite familiar with them and their drain attack to spot the drain and interrupt/kill them in time.

The problem with them lies with new players who just opened that campaign. If you are a new player with no extra gear other than that you get in the game naturally, you aren't powerful enough to kill them quickly PLUS now with so many companions who lag behind when you move they will often bring in extra mobs that there is just no way you can stop/interrupt them all in time.

I had a mate who quit the game over this issue right after he turned level 70 because he thought all other campaigns were going to do this luckily I was able to show him that there are just a few places that drain AP and he came back.

I really find it fascinating that no one ever really thinks about a brand new player in these types of threads who just wave their hands and a perceived non-issue. I know when I first started playing I hated this issue with a passion as well.

As a new player (or old player), losing all the AP in Sharandar is not a big deal. Everyone was a new player. Everyone figured that out themselves eventually. Figuring out buying something is harder than figuring out how to solve it in game. At least in here, someone gives you hint what to do.

@grebnitz , as others have said, there are many mobs that drain AP including fey powries.

Yes, it sucks (no pun intended).
But they telegraph the attack. Takes some practice, but they can be dodged.
And, as others have said, they are not very strong and die easily.

This is a tactical issue, not a "these mobs are OP nerf them" issue.
As in all MMOs, we have to learn to target spellcasters like powries first before killing the dps grunts like "giantsouls".
It can be done. Hang in there.

    As for mobs stealing gold?
No. There are no mobs that steal gold...
... although that would be a pretty cool and clever power to give a mob ITHO*.

There are other things that deplete gold including switching loadouts/enchants.
Were you changing loadouts or enchants around that time?

Or, one can consider this is the practice round to train one to deal with AP drain. As I said before, losing AP in Sharanadar is not life critical. This gives one the first taste how to deal with one for later more critical situation.
