Any PvE SB here? Was Soul Scorch was nerfed?

Hey,

Just dropping quick question did anyone noticed significant drop in damage in Soul Scorch? it used to do so much damage, especially stacked and now even the crits with vorpal don't see such great deal. Can anyone confirm this or this is just something I made?

I went on the preview server a couple of days ago to test different builds and I noticed that my damage as SB was pretty low (compared to HB). I was a bit surprised but a dummy (even the level 73 in chult) is not the most relevant target.
I thought it was because I lost my habit of spamming SS (I used to be SB before switching to HB in December), but I also noticed there might be a problem with cursing the dummies right after hitting SS.
I may have forgotten, but normally I was able to recurse the target with only one Tab after hitting with a SS. However, when I went on the preview server, I had to Tab 2 or 3 times to have the proper curse back on the dummy.
So I lost a lot of time, hence less overall damage.
I also tried to Tab once after each SS, but again the overall damage was lower than with HB.

I don't know what to think....

@etelgrin I've used my SB loadout a few times lately and something indeed feels off regarding dps, however, as I have no ATC because I'm on console I can't know for sure, like, single target damage seems to be still better than HB in longer fights but not by much anymore. Or pehaps I got so used to HB I forgot SB takes longer to unleash its damage.

The enchanment I run as SB is trans dread as it is BiS but yeah, when I saw your thread if definitely got me tinking. Perhaps we are too used to HB? Could it had been a ninja nerf?? I remember @schietindebux once stated SS got ninja buffed in the sense that SS burn damage went from 80% of SS original damage to 100%, maybe devs ninja nerfed thatt back to 80% or even lower?

Testing that without ACT would be horrible, maybe you could give it a try and tell us what you find out?

    Edit}.

Oh wait, I think I know what you mean now, damage (per hit) difference between SS and KF seems to be more noticeable now? I thought that the other day when running as SB, I may be wrong but I think the difference didn't use to be as it is nowadays but then again, without ACT I can't know for sure. Hopefully they didn't lower SS base and dot damage.

The damage is down because they changed the way curse consume works. The dot from curse consuming is not stacking anymore. It can't feed off lesser curses no more, as it did before. Cursing after every soul scorch does nothing else than that 20-30% dmg bonus, it doesn't stack the dot from curse consume. Before, if you had acc, on a crit hit, ss consumed the lesser curse and then reapplied it, allowing the next ss to feed off it, and so on, stacking the dot. The same used to work with dt. Don't know if the dot not stacking is intentional, but guessing from the description of the power which still states it does stack, it is broken. Sometime re-cursing after a soul scorch doesn't even gives me the dmg bonus that it should. Nerfed and broken to the ground.

Brutal curse does work, but is not as noticeable as it was before when the dmg bonus from curses used to split between targets. Now giving 20% an all targets unfeated, that 10% feels weak. Anyways, both paragons are bad, under performing as dpsers compared to others. Others dpsers can keep up with each other, we struggle to not get left behind by supporters. HB just does better up front with its reliable dmg , when SB gains its momentum stuff is already 30% away from dead. Fix the broken stuff and buff casting speed, or else we are standing right at the line between supports and dps damage wise. For now I been running a hb templock, feels less like dead weight in a party.
