Chat Broken

Please I am asking for help! Chat has been broken for months. I have submitted bug reports and updated consistently until the tech closed the case stating it was referred to the Devs. I have received no help since case was closed.

Chat in Neverwinter is broken! I have uninstalled Neverwinter, repaired Arc, Uninstalled Arc, deleted all folders and reinstalled Arc then Neverwinter multiple times, still no help. I have tried every suggestion... it is not my computer or installation... chat is broken.

I have been on voice party chat with Guild members when the issue occurs. The other party members tell me they see my "friend notification" show me log off even though I am still on party voice and can speak with them and can play the game with no other issues other than chat not working, but my toon shows logged out to other players. At that point I will lose some chat channels such as Alliance, Guild, Party and so on but not others. I have received notifications that chat is unavailable as error messages or more often just nothing. The chat channel does not receive messages, I can type messages but when I hit enter they just disappear with nothing coming up in the chat window or on very rare occasions a message stating chat is unavailable. I can change instances or maps and it may or may not help and if it does help it can be for only a short time as in seconds to minutes or fix it for hours. Either way it has crippled my effectiveness as a Guild Leader and has compromised my standing in my Alliance due to the inability to host or run events.

How can you run a Dragon Flight or Influence Run when in the middle of the event you can not send or receive any Alliance or Guild Chat messages. I have asked, I have Begged, I will grovel..please just fix it. My Guild and my Alliance have suffered because of my inability to be an effective leader in chat. This is not just me, I have reports from other Guild and Alliance members that they are experiencing the same issues. I have other computers in the same household and people in other states showing the same issues. It is not connection or bandwidth, it is not computer specs or installation issues. It is a game wide problem that has been in the system since the release of Storm Kings Thunder and I can not get any support to fix this issue. Please I am begging. I am pleading. This bug will result in the dissolving of my Guild if it is not fixed.

Please help.

I also know of this issue and when reported everyone gets the run around. I have been in runs with Tilnaft when this happens and it is game issue that does cause problems with his activity with his guild, I know because it is my alliance his guild is in. Some one help him.

I have also seen this happen to Tilnaft. It seems to happen very frequently.

Just curious, if you do not do voice chat, will this happen?

I don't know what can be done without loging and monitoring from cryptic side.
But few things you can try, depends on how deep you want to dive into the technical part.

First of all you can enable the ingame chat log /chatlog 1
It will create a file with all the chat you recieve, this can indicate if it's a display problem (you get the messages but they are not displayed -> bug in the chat tabs)

Another thing you can try is to monitor the connection, the game uses xmpp standard protocol to "crypticspace.com"
you can monitor it using (listing from the simpler to the more complex with more info):
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/tcpview.aspx
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
    www.wireshark.org

The ports are probably 5222, 5269.
You should also check the firewall / router, perhaps it thinks it's a sort of a attack after some time and drops part of it, and you loose packets / parts of the chat.

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe it will help you.

What I have noticed about chat over a few years of use has always been the channel selector defaulting to [say] or a state that will show for eg. [party] in the text input field but when you look at the channel selector there is nothing selected.

For me, especially party chat needs to have text input twice before it will work and then sometimes failing that re-selecting the desired channel has always got it working again .I have to say it's always been a big pita since I started in May2015 and it has gotten much worse since STK..

Now I find the guild chat always defaults to [say] when ever a window of any sort pops up on the screen, not long ago for a few months there was a problem with when ever a window of any sort pops up on the screen->quests,professions,inventory,esc/]/[/o keys etc. would cause the chat tab to randomly switch .. that one nearly drove me up the wall.

seems many different players get other sorts of chat annoyances some less than me or like the OP where chat goes totally offline.. which at certain very lagged out times usually during events has happened to me repeatedly until i just go hamster and quit.. ;)

good luck with getting it fixed up a bit but it's seems its always had a bit of a whack-a-mole problem, as in; the devs fix one thing that causes something else to screw up...

You will find the chat log under:

    NeverWinter\Neverwinter\Live\logs\GameClient

    It's "Chat.log"
You only need to enable it once /chatlog 1
You can disable it by /chatlog 0
The 1 / 0 is the enable disable flags.

I wouldn't run it for long, not that chat log and not wireshark, the results are huge and needed to sifted through after, especially for wireshark.
So IMO, when it happens, alt-tab and run (better to have the game in maximized window mode and not fullscreen mode)

I didn't mean I should go over it, In my mind you go over it and look if it's connected or not.
I can't know when you have the chat and when not or what is missing there...

File name is here ^ and I'm sure you can check it to see if it has the missing chat or not.

But oh well I guess I can take a look, upload it somewhere, and I'll look at it next week.

The issue your facing seems to be related to connection issue to the XMPP server. I had similar problems with the chat a couple time when having terrible lag. As to how you can fix it, thats beyond my knowledge...

This to a tee! The biggest exception is I am running on a PS4. I can't put a finger on exactly when it started, but it's certainly been going on for at least a couple of months now. It's worked itself from starting out as a mild annoyance to huge pain in my backside. I too am unable to run any type of guild events, and it certainly hurts my participation in alliance events.

Initially I thought it might have been a hiccup in my connection, but that wasn't it. I have also been through multiple routers and modem, hardwired and wireless connection, Static IP address, DNS and even a new PS4 (which I was due for regardless of the situation). Then I started thinking it could be an issue with my PSN Profile, and stumbled across this post. I don't know what to think now.

I feel your pain Tilnaft, and I hope your issue gets resolved if it hasn't yet.
