Fresh 70. Question on best direction.

Hello all.

I played the game when it first came out and had a lvl 60 TR. I stopped playing right before the release of Gauntlgrym. I was looking for something different right around x-mas and decided to see what all Neverwinter had added. Sadly I found that my account at some point had be hacked and everything that wasn't bound was stripped off and sold. Anyways I decided to give it another go and made a fresh Hunter Ranger. I went ahead and bought VIP1 and a ton of keys so I was able to get the full Dusk armor set upon hitting 70 two days ago and I have the Ensorcelled weapon set that was a nice boots to leveling. So now that I'm lvl 70 the whole game opens up at once.

Now it looks like each area/faction has its own Artifact Weapon sets and so forth. I Will do all of the campaigns for the boons but I'd like to focus mainly on the campaign that has the best gear sets. Ive read that the beast weapons in the game is the Twisted set and The best gear is a combo of Dusk and Drow. Is that still true with the new gear up in IWD? I'm really just looking for a good direction to go in the game with limited play time each day. One can get really bogged down on the dailys or MOTE farming for the elemental weapons.

You cannot get the new gear from SKT until you are fairly well geared already, so for a start you need to look at the 'old' gear options. The SKT weapons are available at lower gear levels, but you will not be able to level them from green until well past 3k IL.

Weapons:Twisted is a good option, you might want to look into the various crafted elemental weapons as a bridge between ensorcelled and twisted. Twisted require a bit farming of eDemo, and you need some gear to contribute there.

Armor: Drowcraft/Dusk combo is ok and not too hard to get.

Rings: Farm +4 rings from Underdark content, with luck you get a +5

Neck/Belt/one Artifact: Pick a set that is good for your class. You will have to buy the parts, most likely. For a HR I guess the Lostmauth set is it?

Artifacts in general: The class artifacts are still very good and not that hard to get. The DC and CW artifacts are good for almost any build. Getting (good) artifacts in all slots can be hard for a new character, so taking the trouble to level up alts of those classes to 60 for the class artifacts is worth it.

Shirt/pants: The BiS option is the crafted gemmed stuff, but the Drowcraft store ones are ok too.

Boons: Remember getting all boons is just as important as gear. Do the campaigns in the order listed on the campaigns page.

Honorable mention: Also do not forget you need to get and level good companions, mounts, insignia, armor/jewelry reinforcements and enchantments.

Guild: Make sure you join a guild, as the guild boons are a major boost for 'free'. A guild also usually is very useful for general tips and advice.

I would like to add this to @mentinmindmaker message:

Be careful that class artifact can't be used to refine other artifacts. It means that if you level up a class artifact, and at some point you decide you don't need it anymore, you will have no way to get some refinement back in putting it in some other artifact.

To cut a long story short, if you choose to level class artifact, be sure you will need them.

As a HR, CW artifact is very good, and I don't use DC artifact.

Twisted set of weapons is good,,, but with the runs for EDEMO getting harder and harder to get into, perhaps one of the Elemental sets is an easier goal to reach.... yeah the 100 mote requirement can be a bit of a pain to grind out, but if you got the Tbars to spend grab a cppl of wands for the type your going forward,, Water set seems to be most popular. With the wand you can get a mote from EVERY heroic you do,, even the minor ones,, and there is usually always a crab run going.
I'm still running on my water set (purple lvl) and having no prob running Storm King content

The best advice is to make connections with other people in game. Find a guild that will help you grow and help it grow as well. That will give you access to EDEMO and also Dragon Flight gear.

The elemental artifact weapon sets can be purchased on the auction house now, or made by a artificer or weapon smith

Best direction is forward. Onward and upward.

I second @pitshade. Finding a guild willing to help you out, especially in the information department, is by far the most important thing to do.

Great summary. Many of the boons have a daily and/or weekly progress cap. If you have enough time to play, you can work on a few campaign boons in parallel.

Those are the old weapons and are underpowered compared to the four elemental ones (water/fire/earth/air) which have the same stats as Twisted but different bonuses.

Water is a good choice for a newer HR as it negates some of the class squishiness before you get your lifesteal to a decent level. (water heals)
