Companions can't use artifact weapons?

I made a Drowned Talisman to give to my companion but it gives the message [Error] Wrong type of item when I try to equip it (red X when the item is placed in the slot). No biggie because it isn't bound and I can sell it. Just wondering if this is a bug.

    No, it isn't a bug. Companions cannot use artifact weapons or other artifact gear. They are limited to regular weapons and gear along with some companion specific items.

    Thanks. They should be labeled in some way to reflect that. There is absolutely nothing on the tool tip that let's you know it can't be used by a companion.
