My SW has a Book Imp and my CW a Jagged Dancing Blade. Like me pretty well.
OP has a Deva, and he rocks.
That said, there a reason why you see archon and mercs everywhere. They are wicked. And for the merc, all your toons can use him.
My Drow TR runs a Merc, more based on role play, but he kicks butt.
Archon isn't as important as it used to be with the recent changes to binding stones though. I say use what you like. All of my toons inI tried to go the role play route as much as possible. CW has a mage blade. TR drow has the merc. Paladin the deva. HR Archer will have the kenku Archer SW the book imp. GWF, a dwarf in battle rager armor, has the battle rager companion. Which is a Tuckahoe pretty good too. Haven't decided yet for my cleric or Guardian. Leaning towards duegar guard and blacksmith though.

I say, have fun first.
I like Aranea but people look at me like I have 2 heads when I use her in dungeons!
I thought about aranea for my Guardian in place of the blacksmith. She's a mages daughter so has some magical items. Case in point she has Staldorf and the rust monster for her defender and controller. And the squire and cat planned for her leader and augment.
There is no bad striker IMO. Some are just preferred due to them being ranged vs. melee and some having quicker attacks.
My DC I use the bird archer. My wizard I'm using my Water Archon and I know that is a controll companion but I'm a controller with him and expect to do such and having a controller companion improves the controlling aspect for a CW. My GF I use the Merc as he tends to teleport on the opposite giving me combat advantage.
Out of all the companions I have on my three characters my favorite is between the Panther and the Dog.
I been away from NW for a while. Playing Sword Coast Legends. Reminds me a lot of Baldur's Gate, the first game. I'm enjoying it and playing it when I have time to play a video game.
Legendary Con Artist. "Consumed by Battle-The final strike of Wicked Strike now shreds 10% of the target's defenses=great for bosses. Wicked Strike Deals damage to many foes standing in the way of this attack. has a 2s cooldown=2s cooldown with rank 12 bonding stones!"

pricey as hell to upgrade.. hahah
yeah. 1.5 million AD from epic to legendary. ouch! but worth it to my SW
I went back to my shadow demon and bumped him up to epic, the lack of ring slots hurts but he deals about 65k ish per shadow strike which I like, what Im wondering though is when does it start hitting for hundreds of thousands like Ive seen some peoples do? Mine has 3 rank 9 bonding stones Belt of trinkers Eye of Quorinn and the ensorcelled sword knot. (1 dark 2 azure enchantments at rank 8)
