Losing AD

So I got into a bidding war with another player. The other player opted to buyout the item. The game did not refund my AD on my last bid and of course I didn't win the item. This is the second time this has happened. Anyone else experience this? If so, does it eventually refund your AD or did my 22k just disappear?
