The same scammer creating Alts to scam all day everyday

I am not sure how long this has been around, but I found out when I was trading big items in trade chat to avoid the ah fees. Players will pm me trying to trade me a trans vorpal or trans terror, then they close the trade screen. On the second trade they put up a regular terror or vorpal and try to rush through the trade to scam your items. I've reported this 4 times already since 3 days ago. It's always the same person in the same clan creating various Alts, shouting in trade chat with level 4 chars. Today I found out apparently people have really been scammed by this and lost millions of ad. Wonder how the scammer is still around after 3 days of reporting from multiple people using the same psn account

Chances are that the extremely backed up support staff haven't gotten around to the reports yet, or the reports are not accurate enough. I will thank you for not including his details here, as we would have had to remove this.

Let me also add if you've been scammed by this then maybe it's time you uninstall your game, go back to school and learn how to read before playing mmos. But it does make me wonder if the report system is faulty. I've reported the same person I am assuming 4 times already, and his still scamming in trade chat all day everyday and this was 3 days ago. I am sure countless other players have already reported.

Ok, let's not flame people just because they are trusting or unaware. A lot of the console players are brand new to MMOs. Yes, people like this are bad news and best avoided, but as I stated, it does take some time for Customer Service to look into reports of things like this, especially if the reports aren't detailed enough.

I've been seeing it today throughout the day people interacting with this person calling them out in chat. Just remember the AH fees are a bummer but sometimes its much better than dealing with this.
I Dropped out of school but i never leave the hall. I grab kids, drag 'em in between the walls. They call me the ghost of the badlands, but i'm really just a killer with big hands.

Check and recheck then trade if you are satisfied!

This is the primary reason I'm working my way up the vip ladder.
    No Listing fees.
So big ticket items can be placed on the AH for the going rate without concern for losing AD if it doesn't sell.

Trading? Nope. Not going to it with anyone I don't know, period.
They could be trying to scam you, could be a bot/seller account trying to laundry stuff, etc etc.
Not worth the hassle, or the risk.

    AH all the way.

They do have that 2nd confirm window there for a reason. ALWAYS double check that window before accepting. Don't get in a big hurry, especially with high value items.

Also, always inspect a person - not just for trade but for guild invites too. On Xbox a common thing is for players to create alts and ask for a guild invite, rob their guild bank, then leave - only to delete their character, create a new one and repeat.

A person can get to level 15 in a very short space of time, making this a quick and easy way to make AD for their main.

Anyone trading a perfect vorpal or whatever from a low level character is more than likely a scammer. Also, anyone offering gold to buy stuff - a common trick is to offer silver instead, you'd be surprised how many people fall for this. you have to always enter every single trade with the view that the other person may be trying to rip you off.

Tangential to the topic of the thread, but...

You don't even have to be level 15 to join a guild--only to create one (or be in the party that creates one). There was a thread that someone (one of the mods, perhaps, I forget) made to help spot potential guild thieves. One of the reasons that I have my guild bank on lockdown (e.g. as guild master, I'm the only one with withdrawal privileges). However, the potential thieves are usually hanging around Manycoins. Ask a person sending you a PM for an invite where they are located, or to join a group with you so you can determine their location.

Playstation won't tolerate players ruining gaming experience in any game. If you have his PSN you can report him through there if you yourself lost money.
  • I played Defiance on ps3 for over 2 years and the scammers there were never banned by Trion or PSN. Luckily the playerbase was so small by that point that once a player had decided to do the dirty it only took regular shoutouts from well known players to make sure no one ever traded with them again. It is really quite sad that people stoop so low to stealing digital items though, never understood it and never will thankfully. I do hope the Arc devs aren't like Trions and get around to perm banning these thieves PSN accounts.

I am an mmo vet going back 15 years, first thing i did on neverwinter was create a chat tab with only guild group say and tells. Also made it dissapear after 5 seconds. I play this game totally oblivious to all the bs in chat unless i need a group for a dragon etc. Thats just me though..

It is not possible to trade player to player using Astral Diamonds

  • one of these actually kept trying to offer me a trans terror for a yeti companion yesterday on a low level character, kept saying the regular vorpal I wanted wasnt worth trading for the yeti but the trans terror which is worth over 2m was, was way too sketchy so I ignored.

Today the scammer told me after I told him his gonna get banned, his response was "we'll see, its other people's fault for not checking the trade screen" I've asked the people that were shouting in trade warning other people his a scammer asking what they lost. Response was heart of white dragon artifact, 2mil ad, rank 12 gem. Those were only the response from 3 people. He literally love on to the game to scam other people.

But maybe his right, scumbags like this exist in every game and maybe he won't get banned. Maybe it's neverwinter a fault and they should make it so you have to click accept trade 5 times before the trade goes through. Wonder what the real solution to this is
  • armadeonxarmadeonx Member Posts: 4,952 Arc User
Short of having in-game moderators the only solution is 'buyer beware'. The report function is a very limited tool and I suspect that Cryptic have too few staff to investigate trading scams etc. In the absence of effective policing, it falls to individuals to be ultra-cautious with every single trade.
