Lockboxes are they worth the money

murmidionmurmidion Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 11 Arc User
I have been playing NW for some time and have spent over £100 sterling buying Zen and all of this has gone on lockbox keys, having opened around 200 boxes I have gained one mid-range mount and the rest is mainly professions kits of some type, I think the chance of gaining a decent mount or pet is so high it makes putting money into this game a waste of time and cash, we have lost ADs from professions and now from preying so I ask are this games bosses only interested in getting our cash for virtualy no reward?

Value of any "fictional item" is up for debate. I consider myself lucky I learned my lesson with Entropia Universe. The MMO right away cost me to buy ammo for a gun to hunt and gas for a car to drive. Real world cash was transferred from my bank into the game. The game makers claim is people make money playing their MMO but the transfer back to my bank was a 1 to 10 ratio. I only got one-tenth my earnings back.

My gun broken, my vehicle out of gas, and money being sucked out of my bank account, I stopped playing the game and realized it was nothing more than an online casino. So if you read a review, about some Russian player selling his space station in that game for $250,000 or other fairytales, don't buy it.

Also my guild VP stopped playing this game after purchasing 1 month VIP at 50% off, he told me he had better things to do in the real world. He and I are good friends in the real world. We need to remember there is a real world with real people that need us. Worth and value is entirely up to individual definitions.

getting vip easily pays off by the daily key for lockboxes, even without getting one of the jackpots
never spent zen on keys alone though

I'm afraid that putting £100 of real money into lockbox keys is on a par with buying 50 lottery tickets for the same amount here in the UK. Basically, £100 up in smoke or down the drain. The odds of winning anything worthwhile using either route lies somewhere between remote and non-existent. I'm just sorry you had to discover that the hard way. In nearly two years of playing (has it really been that long !!! :( ), the best item I have got from a Lockbox is an Epic Mount and that was just a couple of weeks ago. I get one 'free' key a day from my VIP membership. Those are the only lockbox keys I obtain. I view them as a fun little bonus on top of the quality of life features I get from VIP but I only buy VIP when there is Zen Store sale. NW can be expensive if you are not careful, a bit like every other free-to-play game currently available.

For that amount of money, you should get VIP and get 30 keys per month.
i.e. you have VIP benefit and the lotto is the bonus.

I like the VIP bonus especially for the free key, and sometimes I go on splurges when I have the AD buying keys with 40% off vouchers, mostly I do it for the tradebars, if I get anything nice it's a bonus, I'd still like to get my hands on that Black Ice Warhorse but it's probably cheaper to save the AD I earn.

The Tradebars I have got enabled me to get some Warborn pieces which are really nice and I spend far too much on TB's on fashion/dyes etc.

But as I said, I open them mainly for the TB's and hope for something nice on top.

Thank you guys for the advice about ViP keys as an alternative, I never considered it before but it sounds like a sensible option, thanks again))

Don't forget to use 15% off coupon when you buy VIP.

VIP - worth it IMHO, free key every day and other very nice perks.
LockBox's wouldn't buy them keys without the added item...like FrosTburn Armor or Pet.
Though if you do allot of runs and make an extra 50k ad in game an buy the ZEN to purchase a key with a coupon...like somebody said...lottery ticket...sometimes it pays off big...mostly not.
