So I'm trying to figure out what's changed, and what I can do about it.

So a few weeks before they fixed Helm's Hold and Vellosk, I started my second character. A drow hunter. Once I got her to "get a companion" level, I got a man-at-arms. Named him Deacon, since I'm pretty sure that's what Man-At-Arms from the He-Man cartoon was named.

Anyway, for most of my playthrough, from recovering the crown to the Whispering Caves, Deacon and I had a simple, effective gameplan. I'd fire at an enemy, said enemy and his friends would come at me, Deacon would intercept. One, maybe two guys would go past him to get to me, but the majority would stick with fighting him. Tank and support. A beautiful thing.

And then, around the time I started the Dwarven King campaign, it's like every enemy in the game decided to start ignoring Deacon. I fire at an enemy, he and his buddies rush me. Deacon? Completely ignored. And since I've pretty much stuck with making my archery as strong as possible, this generally means I get my HAMSTER handed to me.

Is this the game? Is this me? Is it time for a new tank? (I don't want to spend money on this game until they put a monk class in, but if I have to I have to.) What's changed? What can I do? Suggestions welcomed.

My first question is he still white?

If so, he's probably maxed at level 20.
Which equates to the game seeing him as a level 50 toon.

So if you're level 60 plus as I imagine, you're probably generating far more threat than he is.

Time to promote him, or better yet give him a vacation and slot someone else in.

    Promoting costs, IIRC, 50k / 250k / 500k / 1mil AD to green / blue / purple/ orange.

I also like to go the RP route for companions.
For my half orc Ranger, I'd intended on a Yeti for my defender.
But considering who fracking expensive they are, I have to come up with another play.
Being drow, anything magical, or demon related would fit.

My drow is a rogue. So far I have the drow merc, quasit, and tomb spider.
With the iron golem being my planned defender.

Tldr, time for a new active.

He's right, you now generate more threat than your companion and need to either upgrade or replace.

Pretty informative stuff guys; I didn't even know they had an orange level.

Kudos too for the companion RP. I do it also with my characters. Currently have a human O.P. who's background was a bounty hunter in Luskan before being double crossed by a cartel he was working for & left for compost in the wilds. He was rescued by two drow (wayward wizard & merc from the heirloom weapons pack) who were part of a group he was first hired to go after.

He's an odd OP, lol...likes his drink, very rowdy & pledged to S something or other (the forest one)

Props for the He Man references!

He's actually......I guess that's green? Looks kinda yellow to me. Anyway, he's maxed at 25. And I really don't have the diamonds to upgrade.

Thematic companion.....not a bad idea. I don't have a backstory for Cazda Dyrr aside from "she had to leave the Northdark because of the woman she loves". Maybe a War Dog. She's a Drow, they backstab each other all the time, thus she trusts animals more than people. That'd work.

War dog is a great solo companion. Good tank that stuns, and active is reduced threat.

*googles to check* So now I gotta shell out diamonds to change it. Yay.

Upside:: Just got a companion coupon, and I now have a war dog! I have named him Spider, since he's for my drow.

    Just a generic heads up.

The companions that come with the zen kits have a start top out of 30, not 25 & can be shared across all accounts

For instance my Ranger runs with a companion my Son bought for his thieves pack....A lizard ranger guy great for pen....

Had a drow striker/assassin for my heirloom weapons pack (he's one of the guys I mentioned in my opening post about my OP)

Not looking forward to the upgrade costs....oh btw have 4 of those master books on companions that give them ridiculous exp. tried to auction one a few weeks ago with no luck

If you go with a new character give me a shout & we can meet in game. I'll gladly give you one for free; least I can do for a fellow He Man fan.

Not sure what I'll actually buy next....scratch that if the Lion mount dropped tonight I'd go buy a PSN card to buy it lol.

As far as companions go though, not sure what I'd buy...not even remotely interested in that lvl capped 25 green slime but tbh I havent looked at its skills

If I got it I'd likely just vault it to either auction or save for another character....same with the gargoyle.

The one & only thing I'm HIGHLY interested in for this event is the owlbear statue. Reminds me of Gwen w/Drizzle.

Yeah, how they don't have Gwen in the game, even temporarily for a quest, is beyond me.
She was as much a character as D, Bruner, Regis and the rest.

Wait. Isn't there a panther companion? I swear I saw one just today while I was dragon hunting.
  • mossy#5930 mossy Member Posts: 121 Arc User
Yep there is. What I like about the owlbear in the Days of the Dungeon master event is it comes from a statue.

I think Frostreavers talking more about Gwen with Driz when youre doing The Underdark stuff or Icewind dale. Be cool if she was Drizzits companion rather than Mr Battlehammer.

There is a panther companion and it comes with the Champion of the North Pack along with the Epic Armored Glided Spider. You get both on all toons, which makes the pack worth its value; however, that companion special ability only really helps controllers out due to the damage bonus one gets from the enemy being prone.

My favorite companion is the Bird one, he pulls aggro than goes invisible, just enough time for me to kill most adds. I'm working him up to the legendary level ATM. I'm 1/4 of the way there as I used most of my AD to acquire him.

Yeah, Gwen, as in onyx figure that turns into a black Panther.
    Something akin to the overbear.

Black Panther is a black Panther, but a black Panther is not Gwen.
