Campaign Difficulty Order

samaka#2511 samaka Member Posts: 568 Arc User
My partner and I just hit level 70, and somehow we managed to do so without actually starting any campaigns... well we did help Harper Boward a few times, but that is it.

We have just reached 2k iLvl and were wondering the best order to do the campaigns in. Or, which campaigns to do at the same time as I guess they are time-gated. We were just wondering if there are any campaigns that are more difficult than others, or if some have higher effective iLvl requirements?

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated... I did try searching the forums but couldn't find anything specific to what I am asking, sorry if I missed something and this has been covered before! :)

    Hello,

1st Sharandar and Ring of Terror. Easy content, soloable.
2nd Elemental Evil/Underdark/Maze Engine, medium content, can be achieved by a duo.
3rd Tyranny of dragon and Icewindale Mobs hit hard

I hope it will help you ;)

    Yea, that's about right...
    • Sharandar
    • Dread Ring
    • Underdark
    • Elemental Evil
    • Maze Engine
    • Tyranny of Dragons
    • Icewind Dale (pretty hard)
    • Stormking
    FrozenFire
  • Depends of your classes, if you have pets or not, but..

You can do Elemental Evil quests with a 60-70 green geared toon. Same for Underdark Introduction quests.

The first part of Tyrrany ( levelling maps quests, 26->70 ), Sharandar (64->70), and classic quests in Dread Ring (70) are easily soloable for a 2K fresh player. Those campaigns parts work similary : 3 quests + 1 daily lair.

Maybe you will need your partner for "Ghosts Stories" ( neverdeath daily lair for Tyrrany ) and Daily Lairs of Dread Ring, depending of your class.

For the rest of Underdark content, with a partner or a good pet, it's not so hard. You can earn campaign currency with Demonic Encounters in Dread Ring, go to Demogorgon and Skirmishes if you have a team/guild.

Then, there is the 2 Hells. Well of Dragons, and Icewind Dale. It's hard for a solo 2k toon without help. You will need your partner.

Don't know for the new campaign, even harder than WoD and IWD maybe.

As you are 70 already I suggest to start with Underdark and Maze Engine,
as they are gated behind a 20 to 24 hour wait cycle.
After the initial quests from these campaigns I suggest to do Sharandar and DR, as these are more time consuming.
Keep ToD and IWD for a bit later.

Don't forget to visit Harper Boward and further the ToD tree until you come to a stop on the last stages. There are also 20h wait cycles built in to stop you in your progress.

Have you done the Elemental Evil campaign to get to 70?
The EE campaign is not gated via time as such and can be done anytime at your desired speed.
I recommend to start the EE campaign in Spinward Rise (4th pillar) to aquire the artifact weapon that matches your off-hand from Lord Neverember. Saves a lot of troubles and time on the other stuff you do.

This, get Elemental Evil done first. You'll need to talk to archdruid morningdawn if you haven't allready and do the three intro quests with minsc and Boo. Then get spinward done, as a duo it shouldn't hurt so hard. What classes are the two of you playing BTW, a healer + tank would have an especially easy time.

Thank you everyone for your advice, it really is appreciated! We ventured out to Sharandar earlier today, however, my partner and I will look at all this information and plan accordingly. :)

@nameexpired: no, we have literally only done the one step in ToD, helping Harper Boward... nothing else.

@carl103: I am an OP and my partner is a GWF, we also both have companions... we pretty much play with each other all the time! :)

Also, to note, all of our characters have the Ensorcelled main hand and off hand items, we also have the cloak. So far they are better than anything that has been offered. I just got my iLvl up to 2151 earlier today, my partner's iLvl is also over 2k.

Get the Shield/Knot from Neverember and the Greatsword/Mace from the elemental evil campaign. Do not vendor trash them, they're artifact weapons, they get better as you put RP in, looking at the stats you'd have to raise them to purple quality for that to happen but once they get there they will be better than your existing options. Alternatively once you've got the intro quests out of the way Morningdawn will give you mote farming quests, even duo these will be a pain, massively, but those weapons should outperform your current stuff too.

You can also buy packs on the AH with them in for around 400k AD depending on how much your spending. That will give you the pair of items of your choice. Pretty much the only valid options are fire or water, (drowned or flaming), earth, well you should be capping defence on tanks anyway and everyone else dosen;t need it so much, plus you'll be moving plenty in endgame. Air, basically a PVP relevant bonus only.

Alternatively wait a bit, the new lockbox is dropping packs with the twisted stuff in, thats probably best for the GWF.

Also GWF + OP are a good combo, without knowing if the OP is a Devotion or Prot it's hard to say how easy it will be. Prot spec is basically lol mode for soloing. That said get ready to break your old habbit,s prior and even somewhat after the EE campaign red splats aren;t a huge deal, EE they're nearly all CC and hit from 10-20k health on non-bosses and the middle and last bosses of spinward hit for north of 80k at a guess, (they both have splats, (a cone for the second, a line for arresi), that could strip my own OP's entire temp health plus some more besids, survivable, but hurts). A prot paladin bubbled by templars wrath can just hold their shield up. The GWF even with temp HP needs to get the hell out of the way, yes even at 2k i level your going to hurt. Hopefully you've done your research on specs for them, because anything less than an endgame viable feat and power spec is going to faceplant hard on the GWF and moderately on the OP. If the OP is devotion it's a bit outside my area of expertise, but again, don't get hit by splats, you don't have templars holding your back.

Just echoing whats been said already. Sharandar and the ToD quests you get from the Harpers in PE are good for starters. However, i find the RA Salvatore quest line a nice story intro to the Maze Engine. I would recommend doing that whole quest line prior to going to Mantol Derith. You'll find those quests in PE by the driftwood tavern, ?Captain Belgold? will start them. Have fun.

My partner and I just hit level 70, and somehow we managed to do so without actually starting any campaigns... well we did help Harper Boward a few times, but that is it.

I have been playing off and on since the alpha testing. Recently I create my 5th and 6th characters and they pretty much stood round campfires invoking to level 50 or 60 before I started them into any campaigns. I didn't grind them on the campaigns because they really lack story content and once you have done them they won't be anything different. So I understand what you mean about getting to 70 without difficulty.

We have just reached 2k iLvl and were wondering the best order to do the campaigns in. Or, which campaigns to do at the same time as I guess they are time-gated. We were just wondering if there are any campaigns that are more difficult than others, or if some have higher effective iLvl requirements?

    As for the order, again the content isn't exactly mind blowing, but here is the chronological order;
    • Sharandar Campaign: Fury of the Feywild - August 22, 2013
    • Dread Ring Campaign: Shadowmantle - December 5, 2013
    • Icewind Dale Campaign: Curse of Icewind Dale - PvP Campaign - May 13, 2014
    • Tyranny of Dragons - August 14, 2014
    • Tyranny of Dragons: Rise of Tiamat - November 18, 2014
    • Stronghold Campaign - August 11, 2015
    • Underdark Campaign - November 17, 2015
    • The Maze Engine Campaign - March 15, 2016
    • Elemental Evil Campaign - April 21, 2016
    • Sword Coast Chronicles Campaign: The Maze Engine - June 7, 2016
    • Benign Order of the Third Eye Campaign - June 7, 2016
There is nothing to link them together in a time line. As I can start a brand new character up and have them skip the crown and then at level 60 Lord Neverember thanks them for returning the crown. As for difficulty, I know it is very simple to get the three Sharandar gates unlocked at 70, collect the boons, and then I farm the power points. It is my opinion, the best boon is "Elven Fury" where you stack power for killing enemies. I am sure some may disagree. Every weekend I attempt to complete three quests with my characters; The Arcane Reservoir, The Red Wizards, and Protecting the Portal. They reset on Monday and each of these gives 4,500 AD as reward. If you are seeking armor, I recommend you try your hand with the skirmish Prophecy of Madness which gives you Elemental Seals.

    Have fun, enjoy the game.

Throne of the dwarven gods is better IMO, the madness mechanics can be brutal at times.

Thank you everyone for all this great information, it really is appreciated! :)

We have been having a lot of fun playing the game, even if it has felt to us that we've been levelling way too fast... there is so much content between 1-60 but it seems you just zoom right through it all. Ah well, at least we have 8 characters so we should get through all the content before 70 at least once at-level on our various characters! ;)

We will go through all the info presented here and do some extra reading on the Wiki and other places to understand all the content we now have before us... should we have any questions we will ask again! :D

PoM is utter garbage and way too unforgiving still. Even with 2 4k players you can still easily not clear the mobs within the time limit for gold.

It's 100x easier to get gold in eDemo..... No joke.

yeah, don't follow the chronicle campaign window, it's confusing and laid out in a weird order. what's been posted above is generally the way to do it. There's even a point in the dread ring campaign (after 3 boons, i believe) where it pops open a tooltip that says you're now powerful enough to try IWD.

I tell all my fresh 60 guildies (yes, start at level 60) to go:

    Elemental Evil
    Sharandar (at 64)
    Underdark quests (the Dwarven King)
Maze engine quests (these and underdark quests can be done as you level to 70)
then once you hit 70, Dread Ring.
After you get around 2k ilvl, then you can probably start to be effective in IWD and Well of Dragons.
The new Campaign is supposedly harder (with the extra everfrost damage), though it's of course stupidly placed "lower" than IWD in the campaign window.

I've also assumed they've been doing the lower level Tyranny of Dragons as they go, but if they haven't that is one to start with as well.
